Indian Institute of Mass Communication Dhenkanal (also known as IIMC Dhenkanal), was set-up as the second campus of IIMC by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India in 1993 to extend its national footprint. The institute is located 80 kms away from the capital city of Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Since its inception, IIMC Odisha has produced around 2,000 media professionals. Initially operating from a private campus, IIMC Dhenkanal later relocated to its own 7.5 acre-campus offers hostel facilities for its students and a guesthouse (for visiting faculty) which is situated in Gandhi Nagar.
As of now, the institute offers two courses, namely PG Diploma in English Journalism and PG Diploma in Odia Journalism to cater the need of English and Odia Media, respectively. Other than these, IIMC Dhenkanal campus offers short-term courses and training programmes to a range of government organisations.

IIMC Dhenkanal admission 2022 is based on the marks obtained in the IIMC Entrance Exam, conducted by IIMC Delhi. IIMC Dhenkanal offers only two post-graduate courses, namely PG Diploma in English Journalism and Odia Journalism. Both of these courses are specialised in Development Journalism for non-aligned and other developing countries to mid-career journalists. The duration of both the programmes is one year. Candidates must have an eligible score in graduation, Class 12 and Class 10, in order to apply for the IIMC Entrance Exam.
However, due to covid-19 pandemic in the country, the deemed-to-be university decided to conduct a remote online entrance exam for granting admission to students.
