Established in 1989 by IEM Group Institute of Engineering and Management is the first self-financed Engineering College of West Bengal. The institute is situated in Kolkata in the IT hub of West Bengal. Approved by the AICTE, Institute of Engineering and Management is affiliated to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, which was formerly known as West Bengal University of Technology. IEM has been awarded by Grade-A by the NAAC with a score of 3.25.

Institute of Engineering and Management was at 101rank in 2019 among the Engineering colleges. The institute offers total 16 courses under six programmes. These courses include BTech, MTech, MBA/PGDM, BBA, BCA and MSc in Information Science.

IEM has a well-equipped digital library with big reading room and multimedia PCs for students with the resources like 20,235 e-journals, EBSCO business database which provides 1,000 business publications, subscription to internationally renowned digital libraries like IEEE, JGATE, DELNET, etc. Also, students can access all the lecture videos in the university’s media channel Gymkhana TV. The Institute of Engineering and Managementhas collaboration with Harvard Business School for delivering HBS study material, content, programmes and courses. Moreover, IEM organises study tour and industrial visits to USA, Canada, Singapore, Europe, Australia and Malaysia.

Institute of Engineering and Management courses are available at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Courses offered by the \Institute of Engineering and Management are BTech offered in nine specialisations for a duration of four years. MTech in Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Information Technology. Also, BBA, BCA and MSc in Computer Science courses are offered by the Institute of Engineering and Management.

IEM offers internship in top companies like NTPC Ltd., WBSETCL, N.F. Railway, Damodar Valley Corporation, Metal & Steel Factory Ishapore, etc. and industrial visits are also organised in USA, Canada, Singapore, Europe, Australia, Malaysia.

Institute of Engineering and Management admission process is completely based on entrance exams and a candidate’s merit in last qualifying examination. The forms can be filled in both online as well as offline modes.

UG courses

• For BTech,  candidates need to qualify in WBJEE or JEE Mains
• BBA/BCA: Need to appear and obtain a valid score in CET conducted by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology

PG courses

• MTech: Have to qualify in PGET
• MBA/PGDM: MBA aspirants have to obtain a valid score in either of CAT/MAT/JEMAT and need to undergo a GDPI round.
• MSc: Need to appear and obtain a valid score in CET organised by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology.

IEM placements 2019 were satisfactory with a few highlights outlined below:

• 33 students were hired by TCS R&D with 7.5 LPA.
• Companies like TCS Ninja, Cognizant, Wipro and Infosys made 233,189,87 and 112 offers, respectively.
• Total 783 offers had been made to the IEM students. As per the official website, Institute of Engineering and Management placements for BCA students has been 100% since 2013.
