Established in 1983 by a group of visionary industrialists, professionals and educationalists, KIT College of Engineering has been awarded “A Grade Status with CGPA 3.12” by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bengaluru. Situated in Kolhapur, KIT College of Engineering is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

The institute has also received permanent affiliation by the Shivaji University Kolhapur and has received Autonomous status. The National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi, which is the Government body for the accreditation of programs in institutes, has granted accreditation to the Institute for six departments (Civil Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Production Engineering). With more than 3,000 enrolled students and around 180 registered faculty members, the institute offers 22 various undergraduate and postgraduate Engineering courses across various disciplines.

The college has a total of 11 departments including Civil Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering etc. Spread across an area of 30 acre, KIT College of Engineering is also known for its spectacular architectural mixture of old and new architecture, as well as its on-campus environmental activities. The campus of the college has all the basic facilities for its students including a library, a cafeteria, an auditorium, a sports complex, a gym, well-equipped labs and separate hostel facilities for both boys and girls with all the necessary facilities.
