National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Kolkata is a government institute that was established in 1995. Currently, it offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including BDes, BFTech, MFM and Continuing Education (CE) programmes in various specialisations across Design, Technology and Management streams. NIFT Kolkata is one of the five oldest campuses among the NIFT fraternity, which was set up in 1986 under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, a Statutory Institute governed by the NIFT Act 2006. NIFT Kolkata was ranked 8 and 7 for Fashion Design by India Today 2021 and The Week 2020, respectively. Faculty members are extremely experienced and the curriculum is designed in such a way that it meets the current as well as the future demands of the industry. 

The NIFT degree is globally recognised. The institute also offers student exchange programmes and students from ENSAIT, France and Swiss Textile College (STC) one in Philadelphia and one in Nottingham visit the campus on a regular basis. ENSAIT in France recruits Bachelor of Fashion Technology students. It has collaborated with various international universities, including Fashion Institute of Technology-New York, University of Northampton-UK, Saxion University-Netherlands, Queensland University of Technology-New Zealand and AMFI-Amsterdam, among others.

NIFT Kolkata campus offers hostel facility to female students with a capacity of 228 students. There are 78 AC rooms and 150 non-AC rooms which contains all basic amenities.

NIFT Kolkata Courses & Fees 2022

NIFT Kolkata offers BDes and BFTech programmes at the UG level and MFM at the PG level. The duration of UG programmes offered by NIFT Kolkata is four years. However, the duration of PG courses is two years. The institute also offers some general electives with every programme with enhanced creative potential and flexibility. Apart from UG and PG programmes, the institute also offers Continuing Education (CE) programmes. NIFT Kolkata Admission 2022

NIFT Kolkata admission process is an online process, that usually commences in May. Aspirants seeking admission to any of the programmes offered by NIFT Kolkata are required to apply online through the official website of NIFT. Admission to both UG and PG programmes is based on a student's performance in NIFT Entrance Exam, which is divided into three sections, Creative Ability Test (CAT), General Ability Test (GAT) and Situation Test/ Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) round. Admission to Continuing Education (CE) programme is merit-based. The seats reserved for SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy), GEN-EWS and Person with Disability (PWD) category candidates are 15%, 7.5%, 27%, 10% and 5%, respectively.

NIFT Kolkata Scholarships 2022

NIFT Kolkata offers scholarships in terms of monetary assistance to deserving candidates. Currently, it offers two scholarships schemes, which are listed below:

Udaan-NIFT Scholarship Scheme for Foreign Studies: Under this scholarship, the students are offered allowance/ financial assistance depending on the country where they seek admission in design courses. Udaan Policy

NIFT Sarthak: This scholarship waives off 50% to 100% of tuition fees of the students depending on their gross family income. Sarthak Policy
