Previously known as Regional Medical College, the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences was established in 1972 and is located in Manipur. The primary aim of the institute was to provide affordable and high-quality healthcare facilities to alleviate the health problems of the north-eastern states of the country. The institute is administered by the North Eastern Regional Medical College Society. RIMS is a training hospital that has 1074 beds and modern equipment for providing an excellent education to students. The institute has a total of 145 postgraduate, 100 undergraduate and 6 PG diploma seats.

The campus is spread across 192 acres of land that consists of departments such as Anaesthesiology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Community Medicine, Clinical Psychology, Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy, Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Medicine, Microbiology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Otorhinolaryngology, Paediatrics and Pathology.

Regional Institute of Medical Sciences Admission Process

For admission in the UG courses such as MBBS and BDS, students have to pass class 12 with Science where Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English are the prime subjects. They are also required to appear for the entrance exam, called NEET conducted by the central government. Students looking to enrol in the MD or MS courses have to complete their MBBS degree from a reputable university. Their selection will be based on their performance in the entrance exam conducted by the institute.

Other Opportunities

The students undergo internships as a part of their MBBS curriculum. They can complete their internships within the institute's hospital. Applications are accepted for internships by the college. The Medical College was founded as a joint venture of the North Eastern States in 1972. The institute runs under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. The Institute is affiliated to the Manipur University, Imphal and meets the prescribed norms of the Medical Council of India. It is associated with RIMS Hospital, Imphal.

The college offers a bunch of medical courses at undergraduate as well as postgraduate level.

The MCC has released the final result for the Special Round (for 146 seats) of NEET PG Counselling which was conducted in compliance with the order of the Supreme Court of India dated March 31, 2022. Those who have been allocated seats need to report to the institute by April 6, 2022, to complete the admission formalities.

NEET PG Counselling for the All India Quota (AIQ) seats of medical colleges, including Regional Institute of Medical Sciences is conducted in three rounds, including a Mop-up round.
