About

The first autonomous college of West Bengal, India, St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata was founded in the year 1860 by Fr. Henri Depelchin. Named after Francis Xavier, the college was established by the contribution of Society of Jesus, a Catholic minority religious body. In 1862, it was affiliated to University of Calcutta. It was ranked 10th in Indian Ranking 2019 for colleges. Over the years, the college has made significant contributions in the educational field. To celebrate that, the Indian post put up a commemorative stamp in its honour in 1985.

Honours (Morning and Evening), B.A.- Honours in English, Honours in Political Science, Honours in Sociology, Honours in Bengali, B. Sc. - Honours in Economics, Honours in Physics, Honours in Chemistry, Honours in Statistics, Honours in Mathematics, Honours in Microbiology, Honours in Biotechnology (Integrated), and B.A. General. In the past three years, St. Xavier’s has witnessed an increase in the number of offers floated as well as the average CTC offered during on-campus placements. The number of companies visiting the campus has increased considerably over the years.

In 2016-2017 session, 30 companies visited the campus, while in 2018-2019 session, 43 companies participated in the recruitment drive. Some of the key employers visiting the campus include Futures First, Tata Consultancy Services, Delloite, KPMG, J.P.
