School of Design is a constituent school of UPES. It is located in Dehradun and is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and has a tie-up with Pixel Galaxy. It is also accredited with a Garde B by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Apart from UGC and NAAC, it is also certified or accredited by several national or international bodies, such as the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE), International Association of Universities, Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and more.

Currently, it offers UG and PG programmes under various specialisations of Designing and Planning, such as Fashion Design, Game Design, Industrial Design, Interior Design and more. It also offers faculty & student exchange, online modules, research collaboration and collaborative seminars in collaboration with the foreign universities. Apart from this, UPES also offers a four-week study abroad programme in collaboration with several foreign universities. During this programme, students got a chance to study abroad for four-weeks and credits earned by them will be added at the end of the programme. Additionally, the new curriculum framework at UPES, ABLE (Academic Blueprint for Learning Excellence) is holistic in its overall structure, which focuses on students' individual needs to discover, experience, explore and challenge.

It also offers additional programmes or specialisations in collaboration with top organisations, such as IBM, Oracle, Microsoft, Tata Power, Xebia, Infosys, Bosch, Cisco and more. The School also focuses on the growth of students by conducting additional activities, such as seminars, workshops, guest lectures, industrial visits, moot courts to give students industry exposure. The campus is well-equipped with basic facilities, such as smart/ wi-fi classrooms, Wi-Fi, auditoriums, halls, computing centers, moot court setup, hostel accommodation, art studios like MAC, CAD, Cintiq and design labs, clay and paint studio, 3D printing machines and laser cutting machines, etc.

The School offers five different programmes, namely BDes, BFA, BPlan, MDes and MPlan. These programmes are offered under the guidance of UPES and the School of Design, UPES admission process is conducted online through the official website of UPES. UG Courses

• BDes admissions are based on JEE Main/ UCEED/ UPES DAT scores
• Admission to BPlan and BFA is done on merit-basis
• Candidates, who have completed Class 12 from a recognised board in the relevant stream, can apply for UG programmes
• Candidates are selected based on their HSC scores and their performance in Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GDPI)

PG Courses

• A valid score in UPES DAT is required for admission to MDes programme
• MPlan admissions are done on merit-basis
• A candidate must have passed graduation in the relevant stream to apply for any of the PG programmes
• Final selection of students is based on their graduation scores and their performance in GDPI

The School offers BDes in 10 different specialisations & BFA and BPlan programmes at the UG level. The duration of BDes and BPlan is five years, whereas, BFA is offered with a course duration of three years. At the PG level, it offers MDes and MPlan programmes. Both programmes have a course duration of two years and consists of a total of four semesters. Admission to BDes and MDes is entrance-based, whereas admission to other programmes is merit-based. These courses are co-developed and co-delivered by industry partners and are taught through various interactive sessions with Autodesk, Wacom India, etc.

The placements are conducted at the central level of UPES or individually at constituent schools. In 2019, it had placed more than 90 students with a placement percentage of 100%. A lot of top companies have participated in the placement drive, such as TCS, Maruti Suzuki, Let’s Solve, GM, Escorts, Tata Elxsi and more. UPES offers various scholarships on merit-basis under all UG and PG programmes. Candidates can get up to 100% tuition fee waiver under these scholarships based on their marks. Details regarding UPES scholarships are given below.

Scholarship for BDes students:

BDes students are awarded by a scholarship based on their Class 10 and Class 12 percentile. Candidates, who have secured an aggregate of 80% in Class 10 and Class 12, can get a tuition fee waiver of 50% for the first semester.

Scholarship for MDes students:

MDes students are awarded by a scholarship based on their Class 10, Class 12 and graduation scores. A tuition fee waiver of 50% will be given to the candidates who have secured an aggregate of 60% in Class 10, Class 12 and graduation.
