A. Xavier School of Communications is popularly known as XCOMM. It is one of the many schools under Xavier University Bhubaneswar (XUB). Over the last five years of its existence, it has evolved into one of the leading institutions of higher learning in the field of communication and media studies in India.

A. Yes. In order to provide its students with the knowledge of different branches of media, XCOMM engages its students in an array of academic projects such as designing radio scripts, structuring television news, creation of documentary films and short fiction films, ad-film making, public relations campaigns and executing various television entertainment shows (reality shows, talk shows, comedy shows) along with designing of newspapers and magazines.

A. The students of XCOMM are encouraged to actively participate in various curricular activities. For this, the school has even created multiple activity clubs that are headed by student representatives under the guidance of their faculty members. Various clubs such as Photography, Videography, Debate, Quiz, Public Relations, Film & Theatre, Music and Dance as well as Creative clubs have also been created for the holistic development of the students.

Q. What is the pattern of admission test conducted by XCOMM?

A. All aspirants are evaluated based on aptitude, language capability, skills of comprehension & analysis, general awareness of polity, economy, public debates and discussions, international relations, orientation of sectors related to advertising and public relations and an overall understanding of media and society. The final merit score used to select students comprises of weightages of the academic score of qualifying degree (30%), written test (aptitude test for the course and general knowledge in the field of media- 30%), credentials supporting creative works of the students (10%,) and personal interview (30%).

Q. How is the facility for campus placements?

A. XCOMM offers Career Advisory Service (CAS) facility to its students so as to offer them internship opportunities of eight months during their BUG course and an internship of six months during their PG course. Students often procure pre-placement offers (PPOs) depending on their performance and merit.

Q. Are there any scholarships offered by XCOMM to its students?

A. Yes, XCOMM offers a few scholarships based on merit to general, SC/ST and economically weaker students for UG courses. Also, there is a fellowship offered to the students of PhD.
