About

MMC (Master of Mass Communication) is a two-year duration postgraduate mass communication course offered at different universities and institutes in India. The course focuses on refining candidates’ skills related to different aspects of mass media including newspaper, radio, film, television, and internet.

During the course students are provided conceptual tools to critically examine how society is mediated by the world of media. The course enables students to take up different roles in the mass communication industry including film directors, television producers, advertising creative heads, public relation officers, and so on.

MMC Eligibility Criteria 

All candidates who have completed their graduation from a recognised university with at least 50% - 60% aggregate marks fulfill eligibility criteria for MMC course. Candidates should also not be more than 30 – 35 years in age in the year of admission.

  • Public Relation Specialist: A public relation specialist acts as a connection between his/her employer or client and the public. The specialist establishes and maintains good relationships with the news media, consumers, government, local communities and other public interest groups.
  • Correspondent: A correspondent collects as well as analyses facts about different newsworthy events through observation, interview, investigation, etc. A correspondent also reports and writes stories for newspaper, magazine, radio, or television.
  • Video Editor: A video editor is responsible for assembling recorded raw material (dialogue, camera footage, graphics, sound effects, special effects, etc) into a finished product that is apt for broadcasting.
  • Radio Jockey: A radio jockey or RJ is responsible for playing music, holding discussions, and conducting interviews on radio. An RJ uses different equipment to broadcast a variety of audio content such as songs, news, promotional events, etc.
  • Video Jockey: A video jockey is responsible for introducing music videos and live performances on music TV channels such as VH1, MTV, Channel V, etc.
  • TV Producer: A producer plays an integral role in television and film industry in which s/he works closely with directors and other production staff and oversees each project from start to completion. A producer is sometimes also involved in the marketing and distribution process pf a project.
  • Radio Producer: A radio producer is involved in the entire process of the broadcast of audio content through radio. The producer performs duties such as maintaining show format and time, arranging for guests, screening or briefing callers, managing the audience response after a programme, etc.

A. MJMC is Masters in Journalism and Mass Communication and PGDMC is Post Graduate Diploma in Mass Communication. If you aim to take up further studies after your Bachelor’s, MJMC is the better-looking option. But if you plan to specialize in a course, PGDMC is what you can take up.
