Summary:

COAP 2022 registration window is open from March 20. The dates have been announced by IIT Bombay for admission to MTech programmes offered by different institutes. A total of five main rounds of counselling and additional six rounds (A-F) will be held to fill vacant seats. Candidates accepting the seat will be required to complete the process by logging into the institute’s portal, payment of fees, and online submission of documents. Students, who do not want to accept the allotted seat, will be allowed to participate in further rounds of counselling or reject the seat and participate in further rounds of counselling. What is COAP?

Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) is a common platform for candidates to enter their preferred choice of engineering branch or institute for admission to an MTech Programme or job offer from participating Public Sector Units (PSUs).

In 2018, 16 IITs and IISc Bangalore participated in COAP. In 2019, 21 institutes and a PSU – Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) participated in COAP for filling their MTech seats or job vacancies. In 2020, 21 IITs and IISc Bangalore participated in GATE COAP counselling. Last year, None of the PSUs participated in this counselling for the recruitment of engineers.  Candidates aspiring for admission to postgraduate programmes offered at IITs and IISc or for job offers should register and then apply on the COAP at respective institutes. The registration window of COAP is likely to open in March.

COAP 2022: Key Points to remember

Candidates can check the important points related to COAP below:

  • Candidates with a valid GATE score (2020/2021/2022) are eligible to participate in COAP 2022 counselling.
  • At Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) students can see their result of seat allotment made by the institute in which they have applied.
  • All the participating IITs will upload admission offers in a common time window. Candidates are offered seats based on their GATE scores, GATE cut off and choices filled. IIT Kharagpur has released the GATE 2022 result on March 17. Candidates can download their scorecards by visiting the official website from March 21.
  • The candidates registered on COAP 2022 can access the admission/job from all the participating institutes/PSUs
  • To understand the mechanism of looking at all the available offers and making a specific choice out of the offers, the candidates are advised to read the guidelines and then complete COAP 2022 registrations.
  • For admission to the MTech programme in any of the participating institutes or applying for a job in any participating PSUs, candidates should apply to the corresponding Institute/PSU
  • COAP is not an Application Portal for MTech admission in any participating institute. The portal assists candidates in seat allotment. All candidates should apply separately to the respective Institute(s) for MTech admission/PSU for the job.
  • To access and make a decision on the most preferred choice out of the offers (if any) made by participating Institute(s), each candidate should register at COAP.
  • COAP registration 2022 is completely free. Note that providing COAP registration number has been made mandatory by the participating institutes in their M.Tech application portals.

COAP 2022 Counselling Main Rounds: Important Points

Round 1-4 of main rounds, Candidates have all the three options to select. However, candidates will not be able to choose Retain & Wait more than twice on a specific offer.

  • Additional Rounds A, B, C, D and E are independent rounds and each one is treated like a Decisive Round. That is, the candidates will have only 'Accept and Freeze' and 'Reject' options in these rounds.

COAP 2022 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates are advised to check the eligibility criteria before COAP 2022 registrations. Applications of candidates who do not meet the eligibility conditions are liable to be rejected. Therefore, all candidates must fulfil all the eligibility conditions:

  • The candidate must be an Indian National
  • Candidates must have a valid GATE score i.e. qualified in 2022/2021/2020.
  • In the case of more than one valid scorecard, candidates must provide the scorecard with a better score or rank.
  • Candidates must check the eligibility criteria of the respective institute before applying for it
GATE COAP 2022 Registration Process

The candidates seeking admission in different postgraduate courses offered at IITs are required to register themselves online for GATE 2022 counselling. For registration and admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), candidates must check the notification regarding GATE COAP 2022 on the official website of the respective IIT. Counselling procedure for every IIT is different so candidates must apply for every institute separately. COAP 2022 Registration Process will involve the following steps

Online registration: Only the GATE qualified candidates can register themselves online for GATE 2022 counselling followed by the payment of counselling fee.

Online seat allotment: Once the candidate who completed his or her online registration will be allotted the seats on the basis of their GATE merit list after the various rounds of seat allotment.

Admission into Allotted Institutes: The institute will issue a provisional admission letter to candidates after verification of original documents and payment of the fee.

COAP 2022: Seat allotment process

The Coordinating Institute for GATE COAP 2022 will provide five sets of offers. The offers will be displayed on the COAP portal only. Candidates have the following options with them after the seat allotment offers. Candidates who have not been allotted any seat will have to wait for subsequent rounds for the allotment.

COAP 2022: Accept and Freeze

The option should be chosen by a candidate only when they are confident and willing to accept one of the present offers. Moreover, candidates must opt for this option only when they are sure enough that they do not want to upgrade to higher preferences, if any, in the subsequent round(s) of seat allotment.

  • After choosing this option, the candidates will not be considered in the subsequent round(s) of the seat allotment process for any of the participating academic institutes or PSUs.
  • Once the candidates have selected the “Accept and Freeze” option, they would be required to click on the “Submit” button to confirm their choice.
  • After confirming their choice, the candidate should visit the respective participating institute’s admission portal or PSU’s job portal and follow the procedure as per the instructions over there.
COAP 2022: Retain and Wait

The candidates should opt for this option if they are accepting one of the present offers and also would like to be considered for upgrading to their higher preferences, if any, in the subsequent round(s) of seat allotment.

  • Candidates who select this option will not be considered for the other rejected offers in the current round. However, they will be considered for other higher preferences, if any, in the subsequent round(s) of admission.
  • After choosing the “Retain and Wait” option, candidates need to click on the “Submit” button to confirm their choice.
  • After confirming their choice, the candidate should visit the respective participating institute’s admission portal or PSU’s job portal and follow the procedure as per the instructions over there.
COAP 2022: Reject and Wait
  • The candidates should select this option if they are not willing to accept any one of the offers.
  • Such candidates will be considered for other higher preferences, if any, in the subsequent round(s) of admission offered in any participating academic Institutes and PSUs.
  • All candidates must note that all the rounds of COAP 2022 Seat allotment do not have the facility of all the aforesaid three options. A table will be provided below for them to have an idea about the options available with different rounds.

Q. What is COAP?

A. COAP is a common platform for candidates where participating institutes publish the seat allotment result and students make the choice for admission into the MTech Programme of IIT s and IISc.

Q. When did the COAP 2022 Counselling registrations begin?

A. COAP 2022 counselling registrations will begin soon. 

Q. When did the COAP 2022 round-1 to view offers will begin? How many rounds will be there

A. COAP 2022 counselling round-1 will begin from May 20. There will be a total of five main rounds and six additional rounds for candidates.

Q. Can I apply for MTech/Job to participating Institutes/PSUs through COAP?

A. No, COAP is not an MTech Admission/Job Application Portal. It facilitates just seat allotment to a candidate. For admission, candidates need to visit the website of the respective institute.

Q. How will I know the status of any offers?

A. You can check the offer status, during the scheduled dates, by logging in to COAP (Common Offers Admission Portal).

Q. In case of more than one valid GATE scorecard for the same paper, which scorecard shall a student use?

A. Such students must register with the highest GATE Score.

Q. When and how do I know whether any job/admission offers have been made?

A. Offers can be viewed as per the time window (a priori schedule dates) for viewing and decision making.

A candidate can select any one (only) offer out of the available offers. Candidates will have three options as described below:

  • Option 1: Accept and Freeze
  • Option 2: Retain and Wait
  • Option 3: Reject and Wait

Q. I have two or three valid GATE scorecards for two or three different papers. Can I use all the scores?

A. You will register only once. Subsequently, when you log in to COAP for the first time, you will provide all three/ two GATE scores (different papers) in one registration form. For example: if you have GATE Scores for EC and CS papers, then you can register with any one of the GATE paper scores (EC or CS). And include the remaining GATE paper score when you log in to COAP for the first time.

Q. What are the options available when I receive an offer of joining/admission?

A. After an admission offer is made (Excluding the Final / LAST round of offers), the candidates will have THREE options on the Online Application Portal:

Q. Can I withdraw after accepting the offer? How about getting the Institute Fee refunded?

A. Please visit the webpage of the respective organization/institute and follow the withdrawal procedure as per the instructions on M.Tech. Admission offer Portal.

Q. Can I select multiple offers at a time?

A. No, A candidate can select only one offer in a respective round of multiple offers from various participating Institutes/PSUs.

Q. Whether any offer will be available at COAP after the final round?

A. No, After the last/final round at COAP, no offers will be available at COAP. For any offer/admission related matter, candidates must visit the respective Academic Institute's Admission Portal.

Q. After declining/rejecting the offer, can I be considered for subsequent offers?

A. After declining/rejecting the offer(s) in a particular round, you will not be considered for the same offer(s). In case, you have given higher preferences in M.Tech. Application, then you may be considered for the higher preferences in the subsequent round(s) of offers based on the availability of vacancies and merit list, within the rules of that institute.

Q. Is there any chance for me to move up in my preference and what am I supposed to do for that?

A. The candidates who choose “Accept and Freeze" in a particular round of offers, will not be considered for higher preferences in the subsequent rounds of offers.
