HSEE 2022 exam has been resecheduled by IIT Madras, exam conducting body. Along with the exam schedule, HSEE 2022 application deadline has also been extended from April 27 to May 31. HSEE registration process started on March 9. Interested candidates can visit the official website of the exam to fill in the HSEE 2022 application form. As per the latest official notification, revised HSEE 2022 exam date July 31. Earlier, HSEE exam was scheduled to be held on June 12, 2022.

What is HSEE?

Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Exam (HSEE) is conducted by IIT Madras and allows candidates to take admission in five-year integrated Master of Arts (MA) programme offered by the college. The first two years of the MA programme offered at IIT Madras are the same. However, after that the course branches into two streams – Integrated MA in Development Studies and Integrated MA in English Studies. Total number of seats on offer in IIT Madras’s MA course is 52 (each year). The official dates for HSEE 2022 have been released and the national-level entrance exam is scheduled to be held on June 12, 2022.

HSEE 2022 Eligibility Criteria

Aspirants who are aspiring to apply for the HSEE 2022 exam, need to check the below mentioned eligibility criteria for the same:

Age Limit: General category candidates are eligible to apply for HSEE 2022 if they are born on or after October 1, 1995. SC/ST/PwD candidates are given age relaxation of 5 years. 

Candidates meet the HSEE 2022 eligibility criteria if they have cleared any of the below-mentioned examinations with qualifying marks in 2018 or are appearing for them in 2022:

  • The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by a Central or State Board recognised by the Association of Indian Universities
  • Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a Board or University recognised by the Association of Indian Universities.
  • Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defense Academy.
  • Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.
  • Any Public School, Board or University examination in India or in a foreign country recognised as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities.
  • HSC vocational examination.
  • General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
  • High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.

The official website informs: “Candidates who have completed Class XII (or equivalent) examination outside India or from a Board not specified above should produce a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities to the effect that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class XII examination”. It further states, “In case the Class XII examination is not a public examination, the candidate must have passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) examination earlier”.

To meet the eligibility criteria for HSEE exam, candidates should have secured atleast 60% aggregate marks in the qualifying exam if they are from General or OBC category. On the other hand, SC, ST and PwD category candidates meet HSEE 2019 eligibility criteria if they have secure minimum 55% marks in aggregate in the qualifying exam.

“Where only letter grades are mentioned in the grade sheet, the candidate should obtain a certificate from the Board specifying equivalent marks, and submit it at the time of joining. In case the candidate does not provide such a certificate, the decision of the HSEE admission committee regarding his/her eligibility shall be final”, informs the official website of IIT HSEE.

HSEE Admission Process

Candidates can check the below mentioned step-by-step admission procedure before applying for the HSEE 2022 exam:

Step 1: Registration

To fill the HSEE 2022 application form, candidates will have to log on to the official website of the exam and select from the menu “Apply Online” and follow the instructions on the site. The applicant has to enter all the data as per the instructions. The site will prompt to save the data on the system when necessary. Once the candidate has entered the details such as name, email-ID and phone number, the applicant will receive a confirmation mail, which consists of the HSEE 2022 registration number and password.

Step 2: Fill HSEE Application Form

Once the candidate has successfully registered themselves, the aspirant can fill the HSEE application form. The application fee needs to be paid through Credit Card/Debit Card/Netbanking/ Indian Bank challan.

Step 3: Get HSEE Admit card

Once the candidate has successfully filled and submitted the HSEE application form, the candidate will have to download their respective HSEE admit card, which will be available online on the official website of HSEE which will be released two weeks before the exam. Candidates are advised that the university will not send the HSEE admit card via post or courier and can only avail the admit card from the exam website.

Step 4: Appear for IIT HSEE 2022

The Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Exam (HSEE) is of three hours duration and consists of two parts. HSEE Part I consists of objective type questions and Part II of IIT HSEE comprises of an essay question. Candidates are advised to go through the exam pattern, marking scheme and syllabus of HSEE.

Step 5: Check HSEE Result

The HSEE 2022 results will be released on the official website of the exam page. A common rank list is released with names of candidates who have secured at least 50% marks in the exam. Apart from this, separate HSEE merit lists are released for each category.

Step 6: Counselling

After the HSEE 2022 results have been declared, the counselling and admission process will commence. The college will release a merit list after the results have been declared, where candidates who meet the qualifying cutoff marks, will be called for counselling in Integrated MA programmes offered by IIT Madras.

The official website informs: “A candidate has to give two choices for the exam centre. If a sufficient number of candidates are not available at any of the above-listed cities, the same may be dropped, and the candidates will be allocated a centre of second choice in the other city”.

A. Yes. Foreign Students have to also appear and clear the HSEE exam to get admission to the programme.

Q. Can Science students apply for admission to HSEE?

A. Yes. Students from any stream can apply for admission to MA Programme. Judgement will be done on the basis of marks secured in the HSEE examination and the Personal Interview.

Q. Is re-totalling done after the HSEE results are out?

A. No. There is no re-totalling done for HSEE.

Application Form: The HSEE application has been released on March 9, 2022 on the official website of the exam. Candidates are advised to check the eligibility criteria before filling the HSEE application form. The application form will not be available in hard copy and aspirants can only fill the form online. The candidate will firstly have to register themselves before filling and submitting the HSEE application form. The last date to apply for HSEE 2022 is May 31.

Admit Card: The HSEE admit card release date has been announced. The admit card download portal will be available for a limited amount of time. Candidates will have to download their respective HSEE admit cards by entering their registration ID and password on the official website of the exam. The college will not send the HSEE admit card via post or courier.

HSEE Exam: The HSEE 2022 exam date has been announced. The exam centres will be allotted in the HSEE admit card. For some regions, the HSEE exam will be conducted partly online and offline. In the HSEE offline paper, it is mandatory for the candidate to carry along their respective HSEE admit cards along with a valid photo-ID proof. The HSEE exam is conducted across 16 cities in India.

HSEE results: The HSEE results will be declared on the official website of HSEE after the exams. The results will be declared in the scorecards. The list will be prepared based on the aggregate marks obtained in HSEE 2022. A common rank list will be made up of candidates who score at least 50 per cent in the entrance exam.

Counselling: After the HSEE 2022 results, the counselling and admission process will commence. A merit list will be made up of candidates who score at least 50 per cent in the entrance exam. Candidates who meet the cut-off list will be invited for admission counselling and seat allotment process.
