IIT JAM - Indian Institute of Technology Joint Admission Test for MSc

IIT JAM 2022 admission process had commenced on April 9. The last date to submit application forms for the IIT JAM counselling 2022 was May 11. Changes or corrections in the application form could be made till May 14. The admission rounds will be conducted between June 1 and July 11. There will be four rounds of counselling. The result of IIT JAM 2022 was declared by IIT Roorkee on March 17. The final answer keys of IIT JAM 2022 were declared on the same date. The scorecard is available for download from March 22 onwards. The exam was conducted on February 13, over two slots, in 103 cities across India.

The forenoon session was conducted from 9 am to 12 noon. The difficulty level of the papers was considered to be moderate to tough. The exams conducted in the first slot were Physics, Biotechnology and Mathematical Statistics wherein the majority of the students opted for the Physics paper. The afternoon session was held from 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm. The second session was conducted on Mathematics, Chemistry, Economics and Geology subjects. The majority of the candidates took Mathematics and Chemistry whereas Geology was taken by the least number of candidates. 

Joint Admission Test for MSc (JAM) is an all-India level online entrance exam conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) every year on a rotational basis on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India. IIT JAM is conducted to provide admission to candidates in MSc and other postgraduate courses offered at IITs and integrated PhD courses offered by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. Several National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) also accept JAM scores for MSc admissions.

IIT Roorkee conducted the IIT JAM 2022 counselling process application from April 9 to May 11. Applicants could make changes to the submitted application forms till May 14. Candidates will have to check their admission status by visiting logging into the official website of IIT JAM. Selection of the candidates is done as per the merit secured in IIT JAM 2022. Four rounds of admissions are planned but the number of rounds of admission or counselling will increase in case seats remain vacant. IIT JAM 2022 counselling will be conducted as a Centralised Admission Process (CAP) for all the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). The admission lists will be declared between June 1 and July 11.

Admission to each course is provided on the basis of merit in the corresponding test paper of JAM 2022.

IIT JAM 2022 cutoff has been released on the official website of the exam after the declaration of results. Candidates will have to log into the JOAPS 2022 portal and check the IIT JAM qualifying cutoff of the individual subjects.  IIT JAM 2022 cutoff varies according to the subject and category that the candidate belongs to. Later, the authorities will also release the IIT JAM admission cutoff. Candidates who meet the cutoff will have higher chances of admission.

The admit card of IIT JAM 2022 was released by IIT Roorkee on January 16. Originally it was scheduled to be released on January 4, 2022. Only those candidates who have successfully completed the application process by paying the application fee are eligible to download the IIT JAM 2022 admit card. The steps to download the IIT JAM admit card 2022 is given below:

• Visit the official website of IIT JAM 2022
• Click on the tab indicating IIT JAM 2022 Admit Card download
• Log in by entering the registration credentials such as email address and password
• Enter the solution to the arithmetic expression
• Click on the agreement checkbox and enter virtual signature
• Download the IIT JAM 2022 admit card in PDF format

The admit card of IIT JAM 2022 is a mandatory document to be carried at the exam centre as well as the counselling process. Hence, it must be preserved properly till the admission process is complete. The IIT JAM 2022 admit card carries candidates' personal information, exam day venue, address, instructions and related details. 

The result of IIT JAM 2022 has been released on March 17. Candidates can check their scorecard by logging in using their enrolment ID or email ID along with the password. The scorecard will be released for download on March 21. The last date to download the IIT JAM scorecard is likely to be July 2022. The IIT JAM result 2022 has declared candidates' scores as well as the All India Rank (AIR). Qualified candidates will be called for the final admission process or the counselling rounds by IIT Roorkee.

Upon the declaration of the IIT JAM 2022 result, the exam authorities have released the list of toppers in the order of their AIR. The subject-wise topper names for IIT JAM 2022 are given in the table below.

The exam authorities have released the IIT JAM 2022 question papers on February 16. The IIT JAM question papers are released for each paper/subject in PDF format. Candidates can download the question paper of IIT JAM as per their preferred subject from the official website. Aspirants planning to take the test next year must solve the IIT JAM question papers of previous years to prepare well for the exam.

The final answer keys of IIT JAM 2022 has been released on March 17. The provisional IIT JAM 2022 answer keys (provisional) were released by the exam authorities on February 21. The subject-wise question papers and candidate response sheets were released earlier, on February 16. Candidates could file objections against the provisional IIT JAM 2022 answer keys from February 21 to February 25 by paying a fee of INR 500 per question. With the help of the answer keys of IIT JAM 2022, candidates were able to calculate their estimated scores in the exam and assume which college and branch they are likely to get admission to.  

Slot 1 of the exam was conducted from 9 AM to 12 noon for three papers - Physics, Biotechnology and Mathematical Statistics. According to the students, the difficulty level of the papers in the forenoon session was moderate. The exam pattern and structure were in the expected lines. Majority of the topics from the IIT JAM syllabus have been covered. The topics from the Physics section were Nuclear Physics, Mechanics, Quantum Physics, Thermodynamics and Electromagnetic Theory among others. For Biotechnology, the topics were Microscopy, Biology and General Reasoning. The Mathematical Statistics paper included areas like Testing of Hypotheses and Classical Probability. According to students, the difficulty level was easier than that of last year.

IIT JAM 2022 Application Process

The IIT JAM 2022 application process was completely online. Candidates had to visit the official website of the exam to complete the application process and pay the application fee in online mode. The exam authorities also opened the application correction window after the conclusion of the application process. 

IIT JAM 2022 Eligibility Criteria

IIT Roorkee had stated the IIT JAM 2022 eligibility criteria which are given below:

• In order to fulfil the IIT JAM 2022 eligibility criteria, candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree. Earlier, there was a CGPA cutoff, but this year onwards, candidates need to just pass the qualifying degree.
• Candidates who had appeared or will appear for their graduation exams in 2022 were also eligible to apply.
• For the admission process, candidates who would pass the IIT JAM 2022 exam will be eligible to apply for the admission process.

Age Limit: There is no age limit to appear for IIT JAM 2022 exam.

Candidates need to follow the below-mentioned steps as part of the IIT JAM selection process:

Step 1: Fill IIT JAM Application Form

For IIT JAM 2022 registrations, candidates had to apply for the exam in online mode. Candidates had to visit the JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS) link present on the official website of the exam and fill the IIT JAM 2022 application form there.

IIT JAM 2022 application fee also had to be paid in the online mode only via net banking/ debit card/ credit card. It may be noted that candidates can apply for a maximum of two test papers at a time. But for appearing for the second test paper, candidates have to pay an additional application fee. 

Step 2: Download IIT JAM Admit Card

Candidates could download their IIT JAM 2022 admit cards from the official website of the exam. After downloading the admit card, candidates had to take a print of it and carry it to the allotted exam centre along with valid ID proof (original). Candidates not carrying the admit card and ID proof were not allowed to appear for IIT JAM 2022 exam.

Step 3: Appear for IIT JAM

Next, candidates had to appear for IIT JAM 2022 exam at the allotted exam centre. Candidates could take one or two IIT JAM test papers. However, candidates appearing for two test papers have to ensure that both exams are conducted in different sessions.

Step 4: Check IIT JAM Result

IIT JAM 2022 result will be declared online on March 22. For each test paper in IIT JAM 2022, candidates are given an All India Rank (AIR). Based on AIR, an All India Merit List will be prepared. Candidates whose names/ roll numbers appear in the merit list are considered eligible for admission in MSc courses offered at IITs and integrated PhD programmes offered at IISc.

Step 5: Fill Admission Form for IIT JAM Counselling

Qualifying candidates are required to fill the admission form available on the official website of JAM 2022. Note that irrespective of whether a candidate qualifies for one or two test papers, they need to fill and submit only one admission form. After filling the admission form, candidates need to pay a processing fee of INR 600 in the online mode through JOAPS.

Step 6: Check Admission List

After the submission of the admission form along with the processing fee, an admission list will be released on the official website of JAM 2022. After the declaration of the list, offer letters will be sent by the respective admitting college/ institute(s) to candidates. After receiving the offer letter, candidates need to submit an acceptance form along with an advance seat booking fee in the online mode through JOAPS.

After this, candidates will be allotted seats and their IIT JAM 2022 admission process will be complete. 

Note: “Being in the merit list of any test paper neither guarantees nor provides any automatic entitlement for admission. Admissions shall be made in order of merit and depending on the number of seats available at the admitting institute(s),” states the official website.

It may also be noted that admission at IISER Bhopal, IISER Pune and Centralised Counselling for MSc/ MSc (Tech) for NITs (CCMN) will not be done through the common JAM admission process, informs the official website.

The science entrance exam was conducted across cities that are divided into eight zones. There may have been more than one IIT JAM exam centre in one city. The exact IIT JAM exam centre details are mentioned on the admit cards issued to candidates. This year, the exam authorities had announced two more exam cities, Port Blair and Haldwani.  

Candidates could select up to three exam cities in order of preference at the time of filling the IIT JAM application form. However, it may be noted that the first two exam cities had to be from the same zone. Candidates could select the third exam city anywhere within India. The zone-wise list of IIT JAM exam centres 2022 was released by IIT Roorkee along with the exam notification. IIT JAM 2022 is being conducted across 103 test cities spread all over the country. 

IIT Roorkee had released the syllabus of IIT JAM 2022. Candidates can download the PDFs of the IIT JAM syllabus for each subject from the official website of the exam. As compared to last year, the IIT JAM 2022 syllabus has remained the same. IIT JAM syllabus 2022 refers to the topics covered under each subject which are tested in the exam. The IIT JAM 2022 syllabus is of BSc level of the respective subjects.

IIT JAM 2022 exam pattern remained the same as that of last year. It is a computer-based test of three hours duration conducted in two slots. The total number of questions is 60 and the total marks is 100. There are three types of questions, which are Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT). There is a differential marking scheme in the exam and a negative marking scheme for each wrong answer.
