JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) has been set up by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) to manage and regulate joint seat allocation for admissions to over 100 institutes including IITs, NITs, IIITs, and Other-Government Funded Technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs). Admissions to all these institutes will be done through a single platform. The idea behind introducing a single counselling platform was to reduce thousands of seats going vacant in engineering colleges across the country. The Joint seat allocation process was introduced to make the whole process of admissions smoother, effective, efficient, transparent and a lot faster.

Renowned institutes including Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh; Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi; and International Institute of Information Technology, Bhubaneswar, also conduct their admission process through JoSAA counselling.

Candidates who will qualify for the JEE Main or JEE Advanced have to register for JoSAA 2022 to participate in the counselling and admission process for various renowned engineering institutes across India. The admission process for admissions in 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 25 IIITs, and 28 Other-Government Funded Technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs) is managed by The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). To be eligible to participate in JoSAA 2022 counselling process, it is mandatory for students to appear and qualify either of JEE Main or JEE Advanced 2022. Along with this, there are other eligibility criteria that candidates need to fulfil to be eligible for the process.

The registration and choice filling of JoSAA 2022 will tentatively be available from July in online mode. Candidates can refer to the below-mentioned steps for registration and choice filling:

Step-1: Get Registered: For registration, candidates have to log in to JoSAA’s official portal using their JEE Main 2022 roll number and password. Candidates who will register for JEE Advanced have to enter their credentials of JEE Advanced password to log in. After login, candidates must check their all details such as gender, nationality, state code of eligibility, contact information etc. Candidates will be required to reconfirm all the details. Every applicant must keep in mind that apart from contact information, no other personal data could be modified during JoSAA 2022 registration.

Step-2: Filling of Choices: After the registration, candidates will be needed to fill choices of branches and colleges in order of their preference. As per the candidate’s qualification, the available choices for admission will be listed. Once the choices are entered, candidates will be able to arrange them in order of their preference by selecting “Arrange Filled Choices”.

Step-3: Locking of Choices: Once candidates will be done with choice filling, they had to lock their choices and take a printout of the selected options for future reference.

Step-4: Seat Allocation: Candidates will be allotted seats based on their rank, choices entered for programmes and colleges, and availability of seats. If students are satisfied with the institute and programme, they can choose the Freeze option otherwise can choose either Float or Slide.

Step-5: Document Verification: In this step, students will be required to get their documents verified as per the schedule. Document verification will be conducted online. Only after the verification of documents, students will be allowed to report to the allocated for final admission.

Step-6: Seat Allocation: As the last step, students have to report to the allotted institute to deposit the remaining fee and complete other admission related formalities.

Students need to follow the below-mentioned steps to check the JoSAA seat allotment result:

• Visit the official website i.e. josaa.nic.in.
• Click on the “View Seat Allotment Result” link.
• Enter JEE Main 2022 application number, password and security pin.
• Click on “Login”.
• JoSAA 2022 seat allotment results will be displayed on the screen.
• Download the allotment letter and take a printout.

Candidates are allotted seats on the basis of their JEE Main/JEE Advanced merit, preferences, category and availability of seats. The allotted candidates have to download their provisional allotment letter and pay the seat acceptance fee of Rs. 35,000. After the fee is paid, the candidates will have to verify their documents at the Reporting Centre (RC).

The allotted candidates will be able to select any of the following options according to their preference after the JoSAA seat allocation results 2022 are announced by the authorities:

Floating: If the candidates wish to accept the allotted seat but are also open to upgradation and admission to higher preferred institutes or courses, then they will have to select this option.

Freezing: Candidates will have to select this option if they are satisfied with their allotted seat and do not wish to participate in the further rounds of counselling.

Sliding: The candidates who choose this option will confirm their allotment but will also be open for admissions into a higher preferred course in the same institute.

After the document verification is completed, the candidates will have to report to their respective allotted institutes to confirm their admission. The required fee also has to be paid by the candidates.

Q. How is CSAB different from JoSAA?

A. The basic difference is that first, JoSAA completes its JEE Main Counselling process for admissions to IITs, NITs and other participating colleges. Then, CSAB conducts 2 rounds to fill up the vacant seats (if any) of NITs, IIITs and other colleges (this does not include IITs).

General/Open category candidates are required to pay a fee of Rs 45,000, whereas SC, Gen-PwD, ST, OBC-NCL-PwD, ST-PwD and SC-PwD have to pay Rs 20,000 through e-challan or through SBI net banking to appear in the counselling. The fees will be included in the semester fees once students confirm their admission.

A. Yes, the seat acceptance fee will be refunded to a candidate in case they withdraw the allotted seat after deducting the processing charges of Rs 1500.

Q. Is JoSAA 2022 liable to prepare/announce JEE (Main) 2022 ranks?

A. No, JoSAA is not responsible for preparing or announcing JEE Main 2022 ranks. They are prepared by NTA.

A. Yes, it is very much possible that a candidate's name appears in more than one rank list. It depends on the candidate's category and physical disability status along with his/her performance in the entrance exam.

Q. What is a special round in JoSAA?

A. Special Vacant Seats Filling Round, also known as the special round is conducted by the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) to fill the vacant seats at NITs, IIEST, IIITs and other GFTIs (Except IITs) after completion of all the JoSAA Rounds.
