Assam University is a Central University established by an act of Parliament in 1974. It has two campuses located in Silchar and Diphu. Assam University is NAAC-accredited with Grade 'B' and was ranked 101 among the top universities in India by NIRF in 2020. The teaching-cum-affiliating university has 16 schools that offer courses across the fields of Humanities, Languages, Environmental Sciences, Information Sciences, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, Law, Technology and Management Studies. There are 42 departments under these sixteen schools and 56 undergraduate colleges under its umbrella.

Assam University stands at number seven among all the North-Eastern universities of India. It is at number second in terms of student intake in that particular region, only behind Gauhati University and at number five, just behind RGU, Gauhati, Tezpur, and Dibrugarh in terms of placement. Assam University offers UG, PG, doctoral, integrated, and diploma courses in multiple specialisations. BSc programme has a unique feature in Assam University. It is available in integrated mode of five-year duration. It is available in integration with B.Ed and MSc programmes. Students can opt for either of them. Assam University released Merit List 2021 for its UG programmes BTech, BTech Lateral and BVoc for various categories. For BTech and BTech Lateral admission 2021 Round 1, the First merit list has been released except for the BTech Lateral in Agricultural Engineering. National Testing Agency (NTA) is all set to conduct the Central Universities Entrance Test (CUET) exam 2022 for admission to various Integrated/Under-Graduate and Post-Graduation (PG) courses. Some of the important dates regarding CUET exam 2022: 

Assam University admission process for various courses generally begins with the commencement of CUCET registrations. However, it got delayed this year due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Candidates willing to seek admission at Assam University need to register CUCET as the first step and then need to visit the official website of Assam University to register themselves. The application fee of Assam University is INR 500 for the General category and INR 300 for SC/ ST/ PwD candidates. The complete step-wise application process of Assam University is represented below: 

Step 1: Visit the official admission portal of Assam University (www.ausadmission.in).

Step 2: From the available drop-down menu, select the course and hit 'Proceed Now' button.

Step 3: Fill the application form by entering personal details, education, etc.

Step 4: Fill in the entrance exam details (if any), else choose the preferred university-specific entrance exam.

Step 5: Add educational qualifications and upload photo and signature.

Step 6: Pay the application fee in online mode via a secured payment gateway.

The University has a placement cell that keeps posting placement drives by various organisations with details on the University website. As per Shiksha reviews, 50% of the students were placed and 70% received offers for internships with various organisations. Though, a cumulative placement report of Assam is yet to release for this year. The placement cell of Assam University is currently engaged in developing a detailed Employer’s Database that would help the students to trace out employment opportunities in India and abroad. As per 2020 statistics, the average CTC was offered at INR 8 LPA and the highest was offered at INR 26 LPA. The scholarship page on the university website is under construction. As per Shiksha reviews, the Central University of Punjab grants fellowships to doctoral students. All the research scholars of MPhil are provided with the fellowship of Rs 5,000 per month, whereas PhD candidates are given Rs 8,000 per month.

Students applying for scholarships under any scheme of the Govt. of India/ any State Govt. through the National Scholarship Portal need to submit the hard copy of the application along with supporting verified documents for online institute verification by Assam University.

Assam University follows a semester pattern, namely monsoon and winter semesters and releases the result of each semester soon after the commencement of the respective examinations. While the monsoon semester results are declared in the month of December-January, candidates can check winter semester results in May-June. Assam University results can be checked by visiting the official website of the University. Candidates can access the result by entering their mandatory details, such as registration number, programme and field of study. Follow the below-given steps to check the Assam University results:

Step 1: Visit the official exam and results portal of Assam University (www.ausexamresults.in).

Step 2: Select the result tab at the bottom of the homepage.

Step 3: Once the list of results appears, click on the desired result.

Step 4: Enter the registration number and roll number in the portal.

Step 5: Results will be displayed on the screen. Download the document for further use.

Spread across 1,019 acre of land, Assam University provides state-of-the-art infrastructure to the students. Starting from the library to learning rooms, Assam University comprises all the basic as well as modern amenities. Some of these facilities provided by Assam University include labs, seminar rooms, hostels, mess, cafeteria, sports complex, healthcare centre, ATM, etc. A few of the infrastructural USPs offered by Assam University are discussed below:

• Library: Assam University has a central library with a collection of books over 1.27 lakh. It also has subscriptions to more than 1,100 print plus online journals. Moreover, the facility of more than 10,000 e-resources is also available through e-Shodh Sindhu (INFLIBNET), DELNET, and DELCON consortia which can be accessed all over the campus. The library provides all academic library services in an automated environment with the help of Koha Integrated Library Management Software (ILMS). It has a reading room facility with a sitting capacity of 200 and an Internet access lab with 20 nodes.
• Games & Sports: Every year a social meet is organised at the University campus where along with cultural activities, indoor and outdoor sports are conducted The University is currently a member of the Interuniversity Sports Board of India and its teams participates in Zonal and All-India University tournaments bringing laurels and prizes and medals. The central sports complex which is in the process of coming up is expected to give a major boost to games and sports and to other extra-curricular activities of the students pursuing courses at Assam University.
• Hostel: Presently, Assam University houses nine hostels; four for boys and five for girls. The hostels are furnished with basic facilities.  Along with the accommodation, the varsity also offers mess facilities to the students that can be availed by submitting preference of meal at the time of admission.
