Formerly known as Bengaluru Central University, Bengaluru City University (BCU) is a state university in Gandhi Nagar and holds recognition from the University Grants Commission. The university inherits a 160-year legacy of Bangalore University, established in 1964. The present-day university was formed in 2017 by the Government of Karnataka under an Act of State Legislature and Gazette notification No. 34 0f 15 0f 2015 amending KSU Act 2000.
BCU has five faculties that offer undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes in various disciplines of Arts, Commerce, Science, Education, and Language. It also offers courses in disciplines of IT, Media, Animation, Management, and Design. Additionally, the university offers open electives across various faculties along with soft skills education. Besides this, BCU serves as the affiliating body for 236 colleges across the state.
