Chanakya National Law University, also known as CNLU Patna is a state-level National Law University (NLU), established by the Government of India. The University was established in 2006 in Patna, Bihar. It is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). It is accredited with an “A” Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). In 2019, the University was ranked 19 among all NLUs by the CLAT cut off.

Currently, the University offers BA LLB (Hons), BBA LLB (Hons), LLM, PhD, LLD and DPhil programmes under several specialisations of Law. All these courses are recognised by the Bar Council of India (BCI). As a part of the course curriculum, the University timely conducts moot court competitions for Law students. It has more than 30 permanent faculty members. Presently the University has established students and faculty exchange programmes with European universities under the “Indo-European Exchange Programme”. CNLU has also signed MoUs with Vistula University (Poland), Fort Valley State University (Georgia) and Dashrath Manjhi Institute of Labour & Employment Studies (Patna) to facilitate collaborative research, training and academic activities related to Labour Law and others.

The University campus comprises a library with more than 14,000 books along with various Indian and foreign journals. The campus also has a self-financed centre, namely the Centre for Advanced Research on Corporate and Insolvency Laws (CARCIL), for its students to conduct research-related activities. It has established a Child Rights Centre in collaboration with UNICEF. Also, the CNLU NSS Cell regularly organises various programmes like blood donation camps, tree plantation, environmental awareness, child rights programmes, health care programmes, etc., for its students.

Chanakya National Law University Courses

At present, the University offers six basic courses, namely BA LLB (Hons), BBA LLB (Hons), LLM, PhD, DPhil and LLD. The duration of BA LLB (Hons) and BBA LLB (Hons) is five years each, on the other hand, LLM is a one-year programme offered at the PG level. The total seat intake of UG courses is 120 students. PhD programme is offered in full-time and part-time mode. The minimum duration of full-time PhD is three years, whereas part-time PhD has a minimum duration of four years. Apart from these courses, the University also offers a post-doctoral, LLD programme with a minimum duration of three years and a maximum of five. Chanakya National Law University Admission 2021: BA LLB (Hons), BBA LLB (Hons)

At the UG level, the University offers two five-year integrated programmes, namely BA LLB (Hons) and BBA LLB (Hons). The entire duration of both the programmes is divided into ten semesters with each semester having a duration of six months. The seat intake of both the programmes is 60 students each. Admission to both the courses is entrance-based, and candidates are shortlisted based on the scores obtained in the entrance exam. LLM is a one-year full-time programme offered at the PG level, which is divided into two semesters. The programme will cover subjects like Comparative Public Law, Banking Law, Securities Laws, Corporate Laws and Management, among others. LLM admissions are entrance-based. What is CLAT Counselling?

Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a national level entrance exam that was conducted on July 23. The results for the same were out on the official website of CLAT (www. consortiumofnlus.ac.in/clat-2021) on July 29. CLAT-qualified candidates must complete a two-step process in order to appear for CLAT Counselling, which is enlisted below:

Step 2: Make an online payment of Rs 50,000

Registered candidates for CLAT 2021 counselling will be called by the respective NLUs through five provisional merit lists, each released by the Consortium of CLAT. Candidates, who are selected in either of the merit lists will have the following three options, including:

  • Apply for upgrade
  • Exit from CLAT admission process

Note: Candidates, who did not get allotment in the prior list, will have to wait for the next list.
