Himachal Pradesh Technical University (HPTU) came into existence in 2010 and is a government university located at Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh. The University is approved by UGC and PCI. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes under the fields of Engineering and Technology, Science, Management, Information Technology, Architecture and Pharamcy. All these programmes are designed to equip students with the necessary skills and expertise to be leaders in their chosen professions. 

The admission process of HPTU is both an offline and online process. Admission to majority of the courses offered by the University is based on qualifying the required entrance exam. A brief overview of the selection process for all its courses is listed below:

UG Courses

• BTech aspirants are granted admission based on JEE Main/ HPCET score
• HPTU BArch admission is based on a candidate's valid score in NATA/ HPCET
• For admission to BCA and BPharm programmes, aspirants must have a valid score in HPCET 
• Admission to BSc and BBA programme is based on the merit in the qualifying exam
• The University accepts lateral entry in BTech and BPharm programmes

PG Courses

• Candidates seeking admission to MTech programme must appear for either GATE/ HPCET
• The University considers the score of CAT/ MAT/ CMAT/ HPCET for MBA admission
• For seeking admission to HPTU MPharm programme, candidates need to have a valid score in GPAT/ HPCET
• Candidates must apply for HPCET, for admission to MSc and MCA programmes

At the UG level, HPTU offers BTech, BPharm BSc, BBA, BCA and BArch programmes. Candidates seeking admission to any of these programmes are evaluated based on academic merit and course-specific entrance exam score. The duration of these courses vary from course-to-course. Some of the UG programmes are also offered in lateral entry mode. Complete overview for all the UG programmes is elaborated below.

HPTU offers BTech degree in ten different specialisations. Duration of all the BTech courses is four years and admission to BTech programme is entrance-based.

• First 50 per cent seats are filled through the students' score in JEE Main and the remaining 50 per cent students are selected based on the merit of HPCET
• If further any seat remains vacant, it will be filled based on the academic score of class 12

Note: The University also accepts lateral entry (direct admission in second year) for all the BTech programmes with a course duration of three years. All the candidates with 45% aggregate in class 12 with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects are eligible to apply.

In addition to BTech programme, BPharm, BSc, BBA, BCA and BArch are also offered at HPTU. The duration ranges between three and five years depending upon the course. 

• Candidates seeking admission to BPharm are selected based on the merit of HPCET. After exhausting the merit of HPCET, the remaining seats will be filled through the academic score of Class 12 
• For BCA, the admission to the first 50 per cent of the seats is made through a candidate's valid score obtained in HPCET. The remaining 50 per cent seats will be filled based on the merit of HPCET
• Admission to BSc and BBA programme is merit-based
• Either NATA or the score obtained in JEE Main Paper-II will be taken into consideration for admission to BArch programme. Merit in Class 12th will also be considered, making it a 50-50 weightage

Note: The admission to BPharm under Lateral Entry Scheme is done through the merit of diploma in Pharmacy. The vacant seats will be filled from the candidates who have passed diploma in Pharmacy from a recognised University.

At the postgraduate level, the University offers several courses under its various faculty such as Engineering, Management, Science, etc. Admission to all the courses offered under any faculty is entrance-based. The complete admission procedure along with all the important details for all the PG courses is given below. 

MTech is offered under four specialisations with four-year duration. Admission to MTech is based on a valid score of GATE. 

• The admission to MTech degree courses shall be made on the basis of merit of valid GATE score.
• Admission to MTech shall be made based on the merit of GATE. Provided that if seats under remain vacant, the same will be filled based on he score of HPCET
• Furthermore, if the seats remain vacant after exhausting GATE and HPCET merit list, it will be filled based on the merit of BTech

HPTU also offers MBA, MPharm, MSc and MCA at the PG level. The duration for MCA course is three years while the course duration of the remaining PG courses is two years each. 

• MBA admissions are made through either CAT/ MAT/ CMAT scores. For the remaining seats, HPCET score is considered.
• For MCA and MSc programmes, admissions will be based on a candidate's score in HPCET. After exhausting the merit of HPCET, the vacant seats will be based on the academic score of bachelor's degree 
• MPharm admission is based on GPAT scores and for the remaining seats (if any), HPCET and BPharm will be considered, respectively 

Note: The admission to MCA (Lateral Entry) will be done based on the merit of BCA/ BSc (IT/ Computer Science).

Students willing to take admission in HPTU to any programme are required to fill the online application form. Step-wise application process is given below: 

1. Go to the official website of HPTU (www.himtu.ac.in)
2. Students need to register themselves by filling the basic details first, following which they will receive a user name and password
3. Now, login using the user form number, name and password to verifty the email ID
4. After verification, start filling the application form by provinding personal and academic details, etc.
5. Select the exam through which you want to apply for the University
6. Upload the scanned copy of your own signature and photograph along with your parent/ guardian’s digital signature. The file size of the photograph and signature should  not exceed 50 kb and 30 kb, respectively
7. Candidates who haven’t appeared for HPCET need to pay an application fee of Rs 1550 (Rs 1400 for reserved category candidates)
8. Submit the form and make the payment by using debit card/ credit card or net-banking or students can also submit the form offline by taking out the print out of the filled in application along with the declaration form and a scanned copy of it has to be either e-mailed at himtuadmission@gmail.com or either through post on the given address:

The University offers scholarship to its meritorious and economically weaker students through Himachal Pradesh Electronic Payment and Application System of Scholarships (Hpepass). Under Hpepass, there are Central-sponsored scholarships, State-sposored scholarships and Technical schemes, available for the students.
