Karnataka State Akkamahadevi Women’s University, also known as KSWU or AWUV, is an all-women university located in Vijayapura district. There are 157 women’s college in Karnataka that are affiliated with KSWU. It offers UG, PG, PG diploma, certificate and doctoral courses in nine faculties namely, Humanities, Social Science, Science & Technology, Management Studies, Journalism and Mass Communication, Education & Research, Physical Education, Director of Sports, and Centre of Yoga Studies.

The university has three PG centres located, one each at Sindhanoor, Udatadi, and Mandya. Students can pursue a PG diploma or certificate or value added course under dual course programme in vocational subjects, simultaneously while pursuing any of the regular PG courses. It also conducts regular short-term training programmes for improving the soft skills of the students.

The unique feature of KSWU is the flexible and progressive policies for women to enable them to continue their education even after academic gap due to marriage, child birth or any other family responsibilities. Also, there is a day-care centre called ‘Chinnara Loka’ for the kids whose mothers are studying or working in the university.

A state-of-the-art 'Jnanavahini' Media Centre has been established in the department of Journalism and Mass Communication. It is well equipped for shooting and recording television and radio programmes. Students play a major role in telecasting ‘Akka TV’ practical news channel and bringing out ‘Mahila Dhwani’ E-paper.

The university has study centres and chairs for propagating the principles and teachings of distinguished personalities of Indian history. Students are offered certificate at the end of short-term courses from these study centres. The names of these centres are listed below:

Karnataka State Akkamahadevi Women’s University Vijayapura offers 60 courses in all over its nine departments. There are 28 UG courses and 32 PG courses along with PG diploma, Phd, MPhil, certificate, diplomas and other value added courses. There are short-term courses for soft skill training as well. All the PG courses are full-time and of two-year duration each, while the UG courses are of three-year duration each. Tabulated below is the overview of KSWU top courses:

In addition to this, the university has introduced value added certificate courses in Library and Information Science and value added diploma/advanced diploma courses in Journalism and Mass Communication to enable post graduate students to pursue two or more courses at a time.

Admission to all the UG and PG courses is based on merit. Admission notification is released in the months of June-July. Students can fill the form online and submit the same along with application fee. Merit list is released after 15 days of last date of application. Those candidates, whose names are in the merit list, need to attend the counseling as per the schedule decided by the university.

KSWU provides all the facilities for overall development of students along with the academics. The 286 acres campus encloses facilities like library, hostel, language laboratory, computer and internet facility, sports ground, etc.

• Library: KSWU library includes 82,485 volumes and 300 periodicals. Along with this, there are 32,689 titles and 85,549 general books. The university has allocated Rs 40 lakh budget for the library maintenance and purchase of new titles.
• Campus: The university has its own campus called ‘Jnanashakti’, spread over 286 acres of land and located just at 10km from the city. The infrastructure of KSWU is developing very fast.
• Language laboratory: There is language laboratory with well-equipped modern facilities for training students in English and Kannada. It also has adequate number of computers and seating arrangements.
• Computer and Internet facility: Computer laboratory with internet facility is provided for students in the science block. The internet is also available for library premises.
• KSWU Hostels: There are seven hostels that can accommodate one thousand students at the same time. Forms for hostel are filled at the time of admission. Hostel services are free for SC/ST students.
