National Law University Jodhpur, also known as NLU Jodhpur, is one of the top five among 23 NLUs. The University was established in 1999 under the NLUJ Act as sanctioned by the Rajasthan State Legislature in the same year. The Law University is a member of the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs). It is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). In 2020, it was ranked four and five for Law by the NIRF and The Week, respectively. It was also ranked six and eight among all NLUs as per the NIRF and the CLAT cut off, respectively.

The University offers BA LLB (Hons), BBA LLB (Hons), LLM, MBA, PhD, DLitt and LLD programmes in various facets of Law such as Constitutional Law, Business Law, Trade Law, International Law, Criminal Law and Intellectual Property Rights Law. Apart from these courses, the University also offers PG programmes under distance education in collaboration with IMTCDL/IMT. It has more than 40 permanent and visiting faculty members. The University also conducts moot court competitions for Law students. For this, it has two moot court rooms with an exact replica of actual court.

NLU Jodhpur has more than 20 research centres for its students to conduct research-related activities. Some of the centres include Centre for IP Studies, Centre for Insolvency & Bankruptcy Studies, Centre for Competition Law & Policy, Centre for Tax Law (CTL), Centre for Gender Studies, Centre for Legal Theory, among others. The library of the University is spread over two floors, which consists of e-journals, e-books, online resources and more along with the digital remote access.

Apart from this, a lot of corporations or advocates have invested in the University for various academic activities. Some of the investments are mentioned below:

• Reserve Bank of India has granted a corpus fund of Rs 40 lakh to the Centre for Studies in Banking and Finance for conducting research-related activities
• The New India Assurance Co Ltd, Jodhpur, has established an Insurance Chair at the University and contributed Rs 40 lakh
• General Insurance Corporation has granted Rs 35 lakh to the University for establishing an Insurance Chair to facilitate research in the Centre for Studies in Insurance
• Mr Dushyant Dave, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India granted Rs 10 lakh for the development of the library of the University

NLU Jodhpur has collaborated with national as well as international institutes or universities for student exchange programmes and other academic activities. Some of the foreign and Indian universities/ centres with which NLU Jodhpur has signed MoUs are mentioned below:

At the UG level, the University offers two five-year integrated programmes, namely BA LLB (Hons) and BBA LLB (Hons). BBA LLB (Hons) provides an integrated understanding of the interrelationship of Management Studies and Law, whereas BA LLB (Hons) focuses on Liberalisation and Globalisation. It also offers LLM and MBA programmes in two specialisations each. The duration of LLM is one year, which is divided into two semesters. On the other hand, MBA (Insurance) is a full-time two-year programme, and MBA (Insurance Risk Management) is offered with a duration of one year. The total seat intake of both the UG programmes is 115 students, and LLM has an intake of 80 students. Apart from UG and PG courses, it offers PhD in Law with a minimum duration of three years and a maximum of six. The teaching pedagogy for these courses include classroom lectures, guest lectures, workshops, courtroom exercises, moot court competitions, role play, case studies, group discussions and much more to enhance the skills of students. The University offers admission to Indian as well as international students. Admission to UG, LLM and PhD programmes is entrance-based, whereas admission to other programmes is done on merit basis. The course-wise details regarding NLU Jodhpur admissions are as follows:

UG and LLM Courses

• Admission to BA LLB (Hons), BBA LLB (Hons) and LLM programmes is based on CLAT exam
• Final selection of students is based on the CLAT cut off

MBA Course

• MBA admissions are done on merit-basis
• Candidates are shortlisted based on the scores obtained in the qualifying exam

PhD Course

• Admission to PhD is based on UGC NET/ JRF/ PhD Entrance Exam
• Final selection of students is based on the scores obtained in any of the entrance exams and their performance in Personal Interview (PI)

LLD/ DLitt/ DSc Courses

• Admission to LLD, DLitt and DSc courses is merit-based
• Final selection of students is based on the marks secured in PhD

Every year, the University admits more than 200 students under all programmes. In each programme, some of the seats are reserved for SC, ST and PwD category students. Below mentioned is the NLU Jodhpur reservation criteria:

The University offers placements and internship opportunities under all the programmes. The Placement Bureau of the University takes care of all placement-related activities. Apart from the placements, the University has an internship programme for UG and PG students. The internship programme is organised in November-December and May-June of every year which extends from four to six weeks. The University offers scholarships and financial assistance to meritorious students. Students, who have applied for UG programmes at NLU Jodhpur with total annual family income less than Rs 6 lakh, are eligible for this scholarship. The CGPA of the students should not less be than six in Class 12. Students need to fill an application form to apply for this scholarship.
