The North Orissa University (NOU) was established by the Government of Orissa, in 1998. The University is recognized by the UGC, Bar Council of India, and IGNOU.  NOU cover 103 colleges including 2 autonomous colleges imparting education at both UG and PG level.  NOU has two campuses; main campus is Baripada offering PG in eight subjects and Keonjhar campus, offering PG in five subjects. Furthermore, the university offers 17 general and professional courses at different levels through Distance Education.

• For admissions in postgraduate courses, candidates must have a bachelor’s degree with the required specialisation and must have appear for tests as specified by the department in the website
• For few courses, admissions will be based on merit list

• The students receive scholarships by the State Government on the basis of Class 12 and undergraduate results in Arts, Science and Commerce
