Sardar Patel University (SPU) is a public university in Vallabh Vidyanagar, Gujarat, which was established in 1955 by an Act of the Legislative Assembly of the then-Bombay Province. SPU holds recognition from the University Grant Commission (UGC) and has the membership of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). It is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and accredited by NAAC with Grade-A. The university also serves as the affiliating body for 148 colleges.

SPU offers more than 200 courses, including undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes, integrated programmes, diplomas, and a range of add-on courses. The university has 10 faculties housing 31 departments focused on various disciplines of Arts, Science, Home Science, Business Studies, Management Studies, Education, Medicine, Engineering & Technology, and Law. It has a constituent college named M. B. Patel College of Education and two centres, namely Indukaka Ipcowala Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies in Science and Technology and University Science and Instrumentation Centre.

Sardar Patel University has an 86-acre campus, featuring administrative offices, department buildings, and a vast library housing 2.5 lakh sources (books, journals, etc.) and two reading rooms with a seating capacity of more than 700 students. SPU provides on-campus accommodation to 932 students in its eight hostels and one residence hall. Other facilities on the campus include postal and banking services, museum, canteen, community radio station, computer centre, and university press.
