With its main headquarters located at Hazirabagh (Jharkhand), Vinoba Bhave University is a public university which is funded by the Government of India. The University came into existence in 1992 after the bifurcation of Ranchi University and offers courses at undergraduate, postgraduate, integrated and MPhil programmes in the field of Science, Information Technology, Commerce, Education Management, Education and Humanities & Social Sciences. It is affiliated to University Grants Commission and has a distinguished alumni body as well as faculty. It is also a member of Association of Commonwealth Universities, London.

VBU has more than 70 affiliated colleges and 12 constituent colleges which are imparting education in the field of Law, Engineering, Education, Homeopathy and Ayurvedic Medicine. 

Admissions at VBU are usually conducted between June and July every year. VBU offers over 40 programmes including BPT, LLB, B.Ed, BA, BCom, etc., at UG level and MA, MSc, MCom, MBA, MEd, etc., at PG level. The University also offers Integrated and MPhil programme.

UG Courses    

• VBU BPT and LLB admission is conducted through an entrance test, conducted by the University
• Admission to the remaining undergraduate programmes is merit-based

PG Courses

• MBA admissions will be granted on the basis of a valid score in CAT/ MAT/ CMAT/ XAT/ ATMA
• For MCA, final selection is based on a University-based entrance test
• Admission to rest of the PG programmes is based on the merit of qualifying exam

MPhil Course

• Candidates seeking admission to MPhil must have a valid score in the entrance test conducted by the University
• Aspirants who have qualified either UGC NET/ GATE/ SLET, need not appear for the University-based entrance test and can directly apply for MPhil programme

VBU offers approximately 15 UG courses such as BSc, BA and many others with multiple specialisations. All these course are provided at the University campus. Except for BPT programme, admission to all the UG courses is merit-based. Candidates must check the course-specific eligibility criteria before applying for admission to VBU.

VBU BSc admission is merit-based. The course duration of the programme is three years and admission to BSc is done based on the merit of the students in Class 12. The minimum eligibility criteria for the same is tabulated below:

The University offers BCom, B.Lib.I.Sc, BCA and LLB for the course duration of three years and BPT with a course duration of four and a half years. Admission to BCom, BCA and B.Lib.I.Sc is based on the merit whereas for BPT and LLB programmes, candidates must appear for an entrance exam which is conducted by the University.

• B.Lib.I.Sc has an intake of 60 students whereas BPT invites 40 applications every year

Selection process for BPT: Final admission to BPT programme is based on the marks obtained in the entrance test, followed by Personal Interview (PI) round.

At postgraduate level, VBU offers more than 25 programmes. The duration of each course differs in accordance with the nature of the programme. Students can find all the important information including eligibility criteria, seat intake and qualifying exam (if any), as elaborated below. 

Full-time MA programme is offered by the University with a course duration of two years. For admission to MA, selection of the students is based on the merit obtained in the qualifying exams.

MSc programme is offered in nine different specialisations by VBU. MSc admission is entirely based on satisfying the eligibility criteria which is given in the table below:

VBU offers five more PG programmes such as MBA, MCA, MEd, M.Lib.I.Sc and MCom. The course duration of all these programmes ranges between two and three years, depending on the programme.

• Admission to all these programmes is based on merit
• Final admission to MBA programme is based on marks obtained in either CAT/ MAT/ CMAT/ XAT/ ATMA, followed by a GD and PI round
• VBU conducts an entrance exam for admission to MCA programme
• Admission to MCom, M.Lib.I.Sc, and MCA is based on the merit

VBU offers PG diploma in three specialisations. For admission, candidates must have completed graduation in any stream from a recognised university with minimum 45% aggregate. An overview of the eligibility criteria of these programmes is provided in the table below:

In addition to UG, PG and PG diploma courses, the University also offers integrated programmes. Admission to BA+BSc+BEd and BCA+MCA is based on merit whereas the University conducts a written test to accept admission to MSc Biotechnology with Diploma in Forensic Science/ Food Quality. The eligible students need to appear in the entrance exam, conducted by the University, which is of one-hour duration. The exam will be of objective type and will comprise questions related to research methodology and basics of Chemistry taught in Master's programme. UGC NET/ GATE/ SLET-qualified candidates are exempted from taking the University-based entrance exam and called directly for PI round.

For VBU application process, candidates can apply to the course of their choice online. Application forms are available on the official website from the date of commencement of registration process. Those who wish to obtain the application form offline, can purchase it from the University office. However, the application form has to be submitted through offline mode.

Aspirants can purchase the application form of MBA from the University campus by paying the registration fee of Rs 1,000 (Rs 750 for SC/ ST/ VH/ PH category candidates) through DD in the favour of, 'The Registrar, Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribagh' payable at Hazaribagh. The step-wise application process for MBA programme is given below:

1. Aspirants need to download the application form from the official website of VBU (www.vbu.ac.in/)
2. Fill the application form correctly such as personal information, academic qualifications, etc.
3. The duly-filled application form will have to be sent to the below-mentioned address along with a DD of Rs 1,000 (Rs 750 for SC/ ST/ VH/ PH category candidates) in the favour of, 'The Registrar, Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribagh' payable at Hazaribagh
