What's new at VIT Chennai? VIT Chennai is currently accepting applications for UG and PG programmes. Candidates can register on the official website of the institute for VITEEE up to June 15. VITEEE dates are revised and will now be conducted from June 30 to July 6.

VIT Chennai (also known as VIT University Chennai) is a constituent University of VIT Group of Institutes, established in 2010. VIT deemed to be University has always been a sought after choice in India for BTech after the tier 1 colleges. But the very next question that comes up is - which one? Among all the four campuses, both Vellore and Chennai campuses are well established and selecting one will depend on a number of factors. However, Vellore campus generally wins the battle in terms of being the oldest one.

To make this battle a little more interesting, we have compared the 2016 closing cutoff of VIT Vellore with that of VIT Chennai in the below graph. As clearly visible, the closing cutoff of VIT Chennai across the top five BTech specialisations extremely low as compared to VIT Vellore, which in turn, can directly impact the quality of students in the campus.

While the cutoff clearly shows the better option, candidates opting for VIT Vellore will be joining a campus that accommodates over 10,000 students for a single batch. So, students who prefer studying in between a smaller crowd can opt for VIT Chennai.

VIT Chennai admission process 2020 is both merit and entrance-based. The University accepts applications in both online and offline modes. VIT Chennai accepts score of VIT Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE) for BTech, VIT Master’s Entrance Examination (VITMEE) for MTech and MCA, and VIT Research Entrance Examination (VITREE) for PhD. All of these entrance exams are conducted and authorised by the main University, VIT Vellore. But, due to the on-going Coronavirus outbreak this year, Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) has CANCELLED the VITEEE 2020, VITMEE 2020 and VITREE 2020 exams. For BTech, the admission, this year, will be based on the marks obtained in Class 12/pre-university examination in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/ Biology.

UG Courses

• VIT Chennai BTech admission is based on a valid VITEEE rank (calculated as per the system algorithm based on Class 12 marks)
• Students with a valid rank in JEE Main or scores in SAT are given weightage for BTech admission
• Selection to BA LLB (Hons) and BBA LLB (Hons) is based on a valid score in CLAT or LSAT or any other national-level entrance test, followed by Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI)
• BBA (Hons) admission is based on VITEEE rank through a cumulative score obtained in merit of Class 12 or equivalent and PI

PG Courses

• For admission to MCA and MTech, merit in the graduation is considered for admission
• Candidates, who appeared for CAT/ MAT/ CMAT/ XAT/ GMATor NMAT, are eligible to apply for MBA

PhD Courses

• For admission to PhD, candidate's Research Output (RO) is taken into account, followed by PI
• Candidates, who have qualified CSIR NET or UGC NET, are called directly for PI from the respective department of the university

Vellore Institute of Technology, Chennai (also known as VIT Chennai or VIT University Chennai) is a private deemed University. VIT Chennai admits students for BTech through its own Engineering entrance exam, called the Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE). VIT has declared the VITEEE 2021 result on the official website. Candidates can now check their scores and ranks through the VIT 2021 result. Qualified candidates will be able to participate in the VITEEE 2021 counselling process, which will be held from June 21.
