Approved by DG of Shipping (DGS) and affiliated to Indian Maritime University, Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training (HIMT) was founded in 1998. It has four campuses in Kilpauk, Tidel Park, Kalpakkam and Vizag. HIMT is the only Institute in India to offer maximum courses (90+) approved by DG of Shipping. With the introduction of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA, UK) approved courses, it is also the only Indian Institute to offer all disciplines of pre-sea and post-sea courses under one roof.

HIMT is the first and the only Institute in India to complete the Comprehensive Inspection Program (CIP) by ClassNK for which it received Grade A1-Outstanding. Furthermore, it is the sole receiver of multiple certifications from ClassNK, DNV-GL, Bureau Veritas, ICRA, CRISIL, CARE & SMERA across the world. It has received a minimum of one international or national award in recognition of its commitment in Maritime training, consecutively for the past nine years. Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training Admission Process

Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training admission is based on a candidate's performance in the respective entrance exam. Those qualifying the exam are required to appear for an interview for the final selection by a panel comprising Chief Engineers and Captain Superintendent. The selected candidates need to complete a medical examination from any of the DGS-approved doctors and must not record any sign of weak vision or colour blindness. Once the medical standards are met, candidates need to submit minimum course fees of Rs 50,000 either by demand draft or debit/ credit card or net banking. For admission, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training BTech and BSc admission is based on a candidate's rank in IMUCET
  • HIMT conducts its own entrance exam for accepting admission to GME, GP Rating, ETO and OCCP
  • For the post-sea courses, admissions are subject to eligibility conditions of the respective programme

Note: Since IMUCET 2020 has been cancelled, admission is accepted on merit basis

Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training Courses

HIMT offers various UG and PG courses in multiple specialisations. These courses are offered in Marine Science, Engineering and Technology streams at pre-sea and post-sea level. The duration of each course differs depending on the nature of its curriculum. The Institute offers admission to BTech and BSc candidates based on their rank in IMUCET. For remaining programmes, HIMT conducts an entrance examination to accept admission. Candidates, who qualify the respective exam, are further selected through an interview and medical examination.   • Merit-Cum-Means based Scholarships in the memory of Late Smt Madhurika Suresh Vakil

Every year, several scholarships are awarded to students from the low-income group who record meritorious academic performance continuously and demonstrate economic needs. Madhurika Educational and Charitable trust has instituted three such scholarships for GP Rating students with the objective to provide financial support to them. Each student pursuing the GP Rating course is granted an amount of Rs 25,000.

Popularly knowns as HIMT College, Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training was established in 1998. It offers more than 90 courses at pre-sea and post-sea level and is the only College in India to offer such a large number of courses under one roof. It is also the world's first college to offer 40 distinct courses certified by a single IACS Classification-Bureau VERITAS. The College is affiliated to Indian Maritime University. It is also approved by the DG of Shipping (DGS) and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA, UK).

HIMT is the first Institute in India to be graded as Grade 1-Outstanding by the DGS-approved ICRA in 2004 and then again in 2011. Besides, it is the only receiver of multiple certifications from ClassNK, DNV-GL, Bureau Veritas, ICRA, CRISIL, CARE & SMERA across the world. 

HIMT College Admission Process 2021: Fast Facts

HIMT College admission to pre-sea courses is based on a candidate's performance in the respective entrance exam. HIMT College UG Admission 2021

The College offers five UG courses ranging from short to long-term duration. There is also an age restriction related to every course. Admission to BTech and BSc is based on a candidate's performance in IMUCET. For the rest of the UG courses, HIMT College conducts an entrance exam to accept admissions. Apart from meeting the minimum eligibility criteria, candidates must also meet the medical requirements stipulated by the DGS. The College also accepts lateral entry admission to BTech provided a candidate has completed a diploma in Mechanical Engineering/ Marine Engineering from any institute approved by the AICTE with minimum 60% overall aggregate within the stipulated period (three years). The candidate should also have secured minimum 50% aggregate in English at Class 10 and Class 12 level. The maximum age limit to pursue this course is 26 years.

The three-year BTech lateral entry course leads to Class IV Marine Engineer Officer Certificate of competency awarded by the Ministry of Shipping (Government of India) after six months of sea service. The course usually begins in August every year.

HIMT College GME Admission 2021

HIMT College offers GME programme at the PG level. It is a one-year residential course that leads to Class IV Marine Engineer Officer Certificate of competency awarded by the DGS after six months of sea service. Admission to this course is based on a candidate's performance in an entrance exam conducted by the College. The selected candidates are further required to undergo a stringent medical examination from a DGS-approved doctor.

HIMT College Admission 2021: MCA Approved Courses

HIMT College started offering courses approved by MCA, UK in 2018. With the introduction of these courses, the College has become the first one in South India to offer such courses. These are essentially short-term courses of one to five days which are designed to upgrade the knowledge of a seafarer. Those meeting the eligibility criteria of the respective course can apply directly for admission,

At the Management level (section 3), this course is necessary for those seeking certification under the following:

- Regulation II/ 2: masters and chief mates on ships of 500 gross tonnages or more

Advanced Training for Liquefied Gas Tanker Cargo Operations (GASCO)

Candidates must have completed the basic training for liquefied gas cargo operations and tanker fire fighting course

Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) Simulator Training

Candidates must hold OOW certificate of competency

Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (other than fast rescue boats) (PSCRB)

A plethora of post-sea courses is being offered by HIMT College. These include basic/modular/ simulator-based training, refresher and competency programmes. The duration of these courses ranges between one day to one year. All the courses are approved by the DGS. High Voltage Safety and Switch Gear-Management Level Course (HV)

Marine Engineering officers holding one of the following:

- An MEO Class IV (FG/NCV) CoC and minimum of 12 months seagoing service as a certified Engineer Officer of watch 

- An MEO Class I/II (FG/NCV) CoC

- A dredge Grade I/II CoC electro-technical officers 

- A CoC as 'Electro-technical officers' issued by the Government of India

- A certificate of course completion, having successfully completed an approved ETO pre-sea training course and approved seagoing service

- A record of seagoing service of minimum 12 months in the capacity of ETO/ Electrical Officer/ trainee E/O to be eligible for appearing ETO CoC Examination

HIMT College Application Process 2021

HIMT College application process is conducted through online mode. Candidates can visit the official website of the College (www.himtcollege.com) and fill the form against a payment of Rs 1,000. A step-wise guide of the form submission process is provided below:

Step 1: On the homepage of the website, click on the top right corner menu and select 'Admissions 2020'.

Step 2: Enter your name, mobile number, email ID and the course applied for.

Step 3: The application form will appear on the next page. Start by filling your personal information, such as name, date of birth, address, blood group, etc. Once all the information has been furnished, click on 'Save & Next'.

Step 4: Enter your academic details including the aggregate scores of Class 10, Class 12, graduation, etc. Also, add the score of the exam qualified, upload the necessary documents and click on 'Save & Next'.

Step 5: Fill the details related to extracurricular activities and proceed to the payment page.

Step 6: On the payment page, select the preferred mode of payment and pay Rs 1,000 to conclude the application process

HIMT College Scholarships 2021

HIMT College scholarships are extended to students from all economic strata. Approximately 15 types of schemes are offered to make education accessible to every deserving student. Some of these scholarships are explained in a brief below:

  • Scholarship for Indian Armed Forces

HIMT College offers 50% concession on tuition fees to the students whose parent has been martyred while in the service of Indian Armed Forces (Army/ Navy/ Airforce).

  • Female Candidate Scholarship

The female students at HIMT are offered a waiver of Rs 25,000 on tuition fee across all courses.

  • Merit-Cum-Means based Scholarships in the memory of Late Smt Madhurika Suresh Vakil

Students, who record meritorious academic performance continuously and demonstrate economic needs, are granted scholarships on merit-cum-means basis. There are three such scholarships for GP Rating students with the objective to provide financial support to them. Each student pursuing the course is provided with an amount of Rs 25,000.

  • Scholarship for Lakshadweep Native Candidates

As an initiative to be a part of the skill development mission for Lakshadweep administration, HIMT College offers the GP Rating course to Lakshadweep natives at a concessional fee amount which equals to Rs 1,35,000.
