JD Birla Institute was established in 1962 and is located in Kolkata in the state of West Bengal. The institute has completed more than 50 years and has been graded ‘A’ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The institute has ranked 10 out of 120 colleges by Nielsons for India Today in the Department of Management and ranked 31 out of 145 colleges in the Department of Commerce. 

J.D. Birla Institute is a private unaided college and is affiliated with Jadavpur University, Kolkata. The institute offers undergraduate courses in Science, Commerce and Management. The institute also offers courses for PG students in Science and Commerce. The institute has all the important facilities like library, computer centres, gym, cafeteria, etc. but doesn’t have a dedicated hostel for students. The institute has been awarded several prestigious awards like The Economic Times Best Education Brand Award 2020.

J.D. Birla Institute offers courses in Bachelor of Science in the Departments of Food Science and Nutrition, Textile and Clothing and Interior Designing, etc. Other than this, the college also offers courses in Bachelor of Commerce(BCom) and BBA courses in the field of Management. PG courses include MSc in Food Science and Nutrition, Textiles and Clothing and Human Development. The college also offers short-term courses like Montessori training and PG Diploma in Dietetics and Applied Nutrition. It encourages students to do internships in their final year to gain valuable insights and industry exposure.

JD Birla Institute offers courses both at UG and PG levels. All female students can apply for courses both at UG and PG level. The application form can be downloaded from the official site by NEFT payment of Rs 1,500 and the form must be submitted at the institute in offline mode. All the students are required to have a laptop in order to get admissions into the institute.

UG Courses

• Students who have completed Class 12 can apply and the applications are accepted based on several criteria like academic performance and formal training, etc.

PG Courses

• Students having an UG degree from Jadavpur University or any other college affiliated to Jadavpur University are eligible to apply and the applications are accepted based on their academic performance of the students and formal training in visual arts or sports, etc.

J.D. Birla Institute has a dedicated placement cell for conducting placements. Students are recruited by the companies both through on-campus and off-campus placements. The placement percentages are fairly good and students get are offered a package ranging from Rs 3-5 lakhs per annum on an average. Various MNCs like Wipro and Infosys visit the campus for hiring the students. The college promotes internships in the final year to offer the required exposure of the corporate world.

J.D. Birla offers full tuition fee remission for students on the basis of academic, merit and financial status of the students. The colleges also take in the co-curricular activities on account before deciding the list of students for scholarships. J.D. Birla Institute scholarships are also offered to the semester toppers in each course how the rules for scholarship varies year-by-year and depends totally on the administration.
