National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) Ropar is a unit of NIELIT institutions established by the Ministry of Communications & Information Technology, Government of India. The Ropar centre is a young institute that started its operations in 2016. The institute offers short-term as well as long-term courses in Computer Applications and Information Technology. It is involved in promoting and implementing the government's schemes of Digital India and Skill India.

NIELIT Ropar offers various skill-enhancement courses from basic to advanced level. Some of the important facts related to the admission process of all the programmes are presented in brief below:

• NIELIT Ropar admission to all the courses are on a first-come, first-serve basis
• The long-term courses generally begin in January and July every year
• The admissions are open throughout the year for short-term courses
• The application mode is completely online

NIELIT Ropar offers short-term courses focussed on encouraging digital literacy in the country. Candidates, who meet the eligibility criteria, can apply directly to the institute for admission.

The institute offers digital literacy programmes of 4 weeks' duration. Candidates, who have completed Class 10 from a recognised board, are eligible to apply for the below-mentioned courses:

The industrial training programmes are designed as value addition programmes to enhance the skills and career scope of the candidates. These courses are offered in Computer Science and Electronics field for a duration of 4-8 weeks. The institute offers about 12 industrial training course and candidates, who satisfy the eligibility criteria of the respective courses, can apply for admission.

The duration of the long-term courses is one year. The admission to these courses is conducted twice in a year (January & July) on a first-come, first-serve basis. Candidates applying to any of these programmes must meet the below-mentioned eligibility criteria:

Candidates can apply online through the student portal of NIELIT (student.nielit.gov.in). The step-wise application process is elaborated below:

1. Click on 'new user' and create an account with candidate's email ID and contact number
2. Enter personal details such as the candidate's name, gender, nationality, date of birth, etc.
3. Enter the correspondence address of the candidate
4. Update the academic details such as qualifications achieved, year of passing, name of the board/ university, etc.
5. Enter Aadhaar card number. In the absence of Aadhar, the candidate may submit the details of other official IDs such as PAN card, passport, driving license, etc.
6. Pay the application fee of Rs 500 and click on 'submit'

Once the application number is generated, candidates need to log in again with their credentials and upload the following scanned documents:

• Passport-size photograph
• Class 10 certificate bearing date of birth
• Mark sheets and certificates of educational qualifications
• Adhaar card/ photo ID card

NIELIT offers Protsahan Puraskar Scheme for SC/ST/physically handicapped and female students pursuing NIELIT O/A/B/C level courses.

Eligibility for the scholarship:

• Candidates must clear the papers in the first attempt 
• The income of the parents of the student from all sources should not be more than Rs 1 LPA

A candidate has to apply for the Scholarship along with the following documents:

• Proof of registration/op-gradation
• Proof of passing the examination of the relevant  level
• Proof of pursuing O/A/B/C level as full-time courses
• Proof of income

A. Since this course imparts basic computer knowledge, there is no minimum or maximum age limit set by the institute. Anyone with Class 10 qualification can pursue this course.

Q. What is the eligibility criteria for Web Designing course?

A. Candidates, who have completed Class 12 (any stream), are eligible to apply for the Web Designing course.

Q. Is there an entrance exam for the Mobile Application Development programme?

A. No, the admissions are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis, provided the candidate meets the eligibility criteria.
