National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Patna is a government institute that was established in 2008. Initially, NIFT Patna was located in Udyog Bhavan, Gandhi Maidan and shifted to its own permanent campus at Mithapur Farms in 2014. The institute has been ranked 5 for Fashion Design by India Today 2021, 4 for Fashion Design by India Today 2020 and 6 for Fashion Design by The Week 2020. It offers BDes, MFM and Continuing Education Programme (CEP) in various specialisations across Design, Technology and Management streams. It also offers a one-year certificate course in Continuing Education (CE) Programme in Fashion and Clothing Technology. Students can customise the course of their choice by selecting the options provided by NIFT. These options include Majors, Deepening Specialisations and Career Pathways.

Currently, NIFT has 18 campuses spread across the country, namely NIFT Delhi, NIFT Bengaluru, NIFT Chennai, NIFT Gandhinagar, NIFT Hyderabad and NIFT Kolkata, among others. The admission is based on the national-level entrance examination conducted by NIFT called NIFT Entrance Exam. NIFT is known for its infrastructure and provides all basic facilities to students, including accommodation facilities, well-equipped labs, indoor sports facility, medical facilities and a resource centre.

Below mentioned are some of the key highlights regarding NIFT Patna:

NIFT Patna offers BDes and BFTech at UG level and MFM at PG level. The duration of UG programmes - BDes and BFTech offered by NIFT Patna is four years. For PG programme - MFM, the duration is two years. Apart from UG and PG programmes, it also offers one Continuing Education Programmes (CEPs) of one-year duration. The seat intake for BDes is 44 each for Fashion Design, Accessory Design, Textile Design and Fashion Communication. The seat intake for BFTech is 44 and MFM is 45. The seat intake for Continuing Education Programme is 36.

NIFT UG and PG admission process starts in May every year. Candidates can apply for admission to these courses in online mode. Admission to UG ad PG courses is based on merit. A valid score in the NIFT Entrance Exam is required to take admission in NIFT Patna. NIFT Entrance Exam is divided into three parts, Creative Ability Test (CAT), General Ability Test (GAT) and Situation Test/ Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GD and PI) round. Candidates are required to appear for CAT and GAT exams followed by the Situation Test for BDes admission. BFTech admission is based on marks scored in the GAT exam. Admission to MFM programme is based on a candidate's performance in the GAT exam followed by the GD and PI round conducted by the institute. For UG admissions candidates who are less than 24 years (General category) in age can apply. A relaxation of five years is given to the reserved category in the age limit.

NIFT Patna offers scholarships in terms of monetary assistance to deserving candidates. Currently, it offers two scholarships schemes, which are mentioned below:

Udaan-NIFT Scholarship Scheme for Foreign Studies: Under this scholarship, the students are offered allowance/ financial assistance depending on the country where they seek admission in design courses.

NIFT Sarthak: This scholarship waives off 50% to 100% of tuition fees of the students depending on their gross family income.
