Founded in 2011, National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT) Itanagar specialises in skill development in the fields of Information, Electronics and Communication Technology (IECT) through various long term and short term courses. The centre also started Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) course with effect from July 2016 academic session. The degree course is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University. Two extension centres are also being set up at Pasighat Town and Tezu in Arunachal Pradesh. 

The institute offers nearly 20 short-term and long-term courses, primarily in the stream of IT. Some important facts related to NIELIT Itanagar admission are listed below:

Short-term Courses

NIELIT Itanagar offers short-term courses from beginner to advanced level. The duration of these courses varies from 36 hours to two months. Admission is accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The beginner's courses impart digital literacy to the candidates. They make them familiar with basic computer knowledge and usage of the internet. The eligibility criteria of these programmes and their duration are tabulated below:

The intermediate courses are skill-enhancement programmes for candidates who have completed Class 12. Admission to these two-month courses is based on candidate's academic merit. All the intermediate programmes are mentioned below:

The advanced courses are designed to improve the job scope of candidates in the field of IECT. Those who wish to pursue a value-addition programme in this field can apply for admission to NIELIT Itanagar. The admissions to advanced short-term courses are merit-based. The duration of BCA programme is three years, and the rest of the long-term courses are of one-year duration. Those interested to take admission to one of these long-term courses need to appear for NIELIT entrance exam. The eligibility criteria required to appear for the entrance exam of various long-term courses is mentioned in the table below:

Candidates can apply online through the student portal of NIELIT (student.nielit.gov.in). The step-wise application process of NIELIT Itanagar is given below:

1. Click on 'new user' and create an account with candidate's email ID and contact number
2. Select the desired course and NIELIT centre
3. Enter personal details, Aadhaar Card number and corresponding address details
4. Update the academic details such as qualifications achieved, year of passing, name of the board/ university, etc.
5. Upload photograph and scanned images of signature and left-hand thumb impression (up to 50KB)
6. Pay the application fee of Rs 500 via debit card/ credit card/ net banking, and click on 'Submit'

Candidate must have an Aadhaar Card while filling the application form. In the absence of Aadhaar, the candidate may submit the following official IDs:

• Enrolment number of UIDAI (EID)
• Bank account (passbook with photo)
• PAN card
• Valid passport
• Valid driving license
• Valid photo ID card of student issued by school/college authority

Candidate need not submit any documentary proof in support of the information provided in the online application form.

NIELIT offers Protsahan Puraskar Scheme for SC/ST/physically handicapped and female students pursuing NIELIT O/A/B/C level courses.

Eligibility for the scholarship:

• Candidates must clear the papers in the first attempt 
• The income of the parents of the student from all sources should not be more than Rs 1 LPA

A candidate has to apply for the scholarship along with the following documents:

• Proof of registration/op-gradation
• Proof of passing the examination of the relevant  level
• Proof of pursuing O/A/B/C level as full-time courses
• Proof of income
