Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences (SMIMS) is a constituent college of Sikkim Manipal University (SMU), established in 1997. With a team of nearly 300 faculty and over 20 departments, the Institute conducts various Medical and Health Science courses at UG as well as PG level. At present, there are approximately 20 courses being offered by the Institute, which are approved by the Medical Council of India (MCI). The associated Central Referral Hospital has over 20 specialities and super specialities in Neurosurgery, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Cardio-surgery and Urology with state of the art equipments. SMIMS aims at providing excellence in medical education along with community healthcare services.

UG Courses

• SMIMS MBBS admission is based on a candidate's performance in NEET
• Admission to the BSc programme is merit-based

PG Courses

• For admission to MD/MS programmes, candidates must appear for NEET PG
• SMU conducts an entrance test to accept admissions to the MSc programmes

The Institute accepts NEET and NEET PG exams for shortlisting candidates for admission. Here are the important dates of these exams:

SMIMS offers MBBS and BSc in Medical Biotechnology at the UG level. Candidates are selected to the MBBS programme based on their NEET scores. Admission to BSc programme, however, is conducted on the basis of a candidate's academic merit. The duration of BSc is three years and that of the MBBS course is four years and six months, including an internship. The table below provides the eligibility criteria of both the programmes:

At PG level, SMIMS offers MD, MS and MSc programmes with various specialisations. The course duration of MD and MS is three years, and that of the MSc programme is two years. Read on to know more about the eligibility criteria and admission process of all PG programmes.

The Institute offers eight specialisations in MD and two in MS. Candidates, who have completed MBBS with an internship by March 31 of the admission year, can apply for MD/MS programmes. The admission is based on a candidate's performance in NEET PG. All the specialisations offered in both the programmes are tabulated below:

The Insitute offers MSc in Medical with five specialisations. It is a three-year programme, admission to which is based on an entrance test conducted by SMU. An overview of the eligibility criteria required for admission to an MSc programme is provided in the table below:

The application process of SMIMS is online. Candidates are required to visit the official website of SMU to avail the admission form, against a payment of Rs 500. Below are the steps to fill the form:

1. Visit the official website of Sikkim Manipal University (smu.edu.in) and click on 'Apply Now'

2. On the next page that opens, select 'SMIMS Admissions'

3. Register with the candidate's name and phone number, and create a password. Click on 'Register & Continue'

4. The application form opens up on a new page. Enter the candidate's personal details such as name, date of birth, gender, nationality, etc.

5. Enter the academic information such as qualifying exam name, board, year of passing and percentage secured

6. An application number will be generated on the next page

7. Scroll down to upload a scanned photograph and signature

8. Upload the required mark sheets/ scorecard

9. Pay the application fee of Rs 500 via debit/ credit card or net banking and click on 'Submit'

Candidates need to scan and upload the following documents with the application form:

• Passport-size photo
• Signature
• Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets
• UG mark sheets (for PG applicants)
• NEET/ NEET PG scorecard (wherever applicable)
