Sikkim Manipal University Distance Education (SMUDE), the distance learning arm of Sikkim Manipal University, was set up in 2001. The University offers approximately 10 courses such as MBA, MCA, BCA and BBA. All these programmes are recognised and approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Admission to all the courses is done through online mode. The admission process for each course is listed below:

• For admission to MBA, candidates are required to appear for an entrance test called SMUDE Management Aptitude Test (SMAT)
• In the case of the rest of the programmes, the admissions are merit-based

The University offers BBA, BCA, BA and BSc IT at UG level. A candidate's qualifying examination score is considered for their acceptance into the respective course's admission. The minimum eligibility criteria required to qualify for admission to these three-year programmes is tabulated below:

At PG level, the University offers MBA, MCA and MSc IT. The duration of all three programmes is three years. Admission to MCA and MSc IT is merit-based. However, for an MBA, the candidates are required to qualify SMAT. All four MBA specialisations and their eligibility criteria are provided in the table below:

For MCA and MSc IT programmes, candidates are offered admission based on their previous academic performance. An overview of the required eligibility criteria is given below:

The application process of SMUDE is conducted through online mode. Candidates need to follow the below steps to fill the application form:

1. Visit the official website of the University (smude.edu.in) and click on 'Request Info'
2. An admission counsellor from the University will get in contact with the students
3. If found eligible, the counsellor will send a link of the application form via email
4. Candidates are required to fill their personal as well as the academic details in the application form
5. The requisite documents must be uploaded in the given size and dimensions
6. Pay the application fee online via credit/debit card or net banking

Candidates need to scan and upload the following documents along with the application form:

• ID proof in jpeg format
• Aadhaar Card in jpeg format
• Recent coloured photograph with dimensions 3.5cm x 4.5cm
• Specimen signature of dimension 4.5cm x 1.5 cm
• Educational certificates and mark sheets
• Caste certificate, if applicable

Q. Is it compulsory to attend classes under distance education mode?

A. Attendance is not mandatory. Students are given access to EduNxt e-learning platform to access the learning resources, e-library facility and to interact with academics counsellors and other students as well.

Q. Is there an entrance test for admission?

A. Most programmes do not require the student to write an entrance test. The admission to all programmes is based on eligibility criteria. However, for admission to an MBA programme, a student needs to write the SMAT test.

A. Admission to the MCA programme is based on a candidate's academic merit. The University will send a confirmation email if found eligible for the programme.
