Recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC), School of Engineering is a constituent school of UPES located in Dehradun. The School is also accredited with Grade B by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Apart from UGC and NAAC, it is also certified/ accredited by several national or international bodies, such as the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE), International Association of Universities, Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and more. The School has been ranked 91 in the Engineering category by the NIRF 2021.

Currently, it offers UG, PG and PhD programmes in various specialisations of Engineering. These courses are offered under seven different departments, including Department of Aerospace Engineering, Department of Applied Sciences, Department of Chemical Engineering among others. These are co-developed and co-delivered by industry partners. Apart from these courses, it also offers a Business Diploma in collaboration with LSBF, Singapore. The School also allows students to get free access to more than 3,900 courses on Coursera. It has more than 50 permanent faculty members.

Apart from the regular courses, it offers faculty & student exchange, online modules, research collaboration and collaborative seminars in collaboration with the foreign universities. Its BTech Chemical Engineering (Refining & Petrochemicals) and Automotive Design Engineering specialisations are NBA accredited. The new curriculum framework at UPES, ABLE (Academic Blueprint for Learning Excellence) is holistic in its overall structure and yet focuses on the individual need of the student to discover, experience, explore and challenge.

The School focuses on the growth of students by conducting additional activities, such as seminars, workshops, guest lectures, industrial visits, moot courts to give students industry exposure. It facilitates from the main campus of UPES, Dehradun and is well-equipped with basic facilities, such as smart classrooms, Wi-Fi, labs, auditoriums, halls, computing centers, moot court setup, hostel accommodation and many more.

At present, it offers five different programmes, namely, BTech, BSc (Hons), MTech, MSc (Hons) and PhD under various specialisations of Engineering. Admission to BTech and PhD is entrance-based, whereas, admission to other programmes is done on merit-basis. UG Courses

• Admission to BTech is based on UPESEAT/ JEE Main/ SAT/ Board merit scores
• BSc (Hons) admissions are done on merit-basis
• Candidates, who have completed Class 12 from a recognised board in the relevant stream, can apply for UG programmes
• Candidates are selected based on the HSC scores and their performance in Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GDPI)

PG Courses

• Admission to MTech and MSc (Hons) is done on merit-basis
• A candidate must have passed graduation in the relevant stream to apply for PG programmes
• Final selection of students is based on the graduation scores and their performance in GDPI

PhD Course

• Admission to PhD is based on Research Entrance Test (RET), conducted by UPES
• Candidates, who have passed master’s degree from a recognised university, can apply for PhD programme
• Candidates are shortlisted based on the marks obtained in RET and their performance in PI

At the UG level, it offers BTech and BSc (Hons) programmes. BSc (Hons) is offered in three different specialisations, whereas, BTech is offered in more than 10 specialisations. MTech and MSc (Hons) are offered at the PG level.

Students of the School get a chance to study abroad through its four-week study abroad programme, where students study at the collaborated foreign universities for a duration of four weeks. The credits earned by students will be added at the end of the semester. It also offers some additional programmes or specialisations in collaboration with top organisations, such as IBM, Oracle, Microsoft, Tata Power, Xebia, Infosys, Bosch, Cisco and more.

All the programmes offered by the School, follow a semester pattern and candidates need to secured minimum aggregate to pass a particular semester. Apart from the UG and PG courses, it also offers a full-time or part-time PhD programme with a minimum course duration of three years and a maximum of six. The School does not have its own scholarship as scholarships are offered at the central level of UPES. Candidates can get up to 100% tuition fee waiver under these scholarships based on their marks. Details regarding UPES scholarships are given below.

Scholarship for BTech students:

BTech students are awarded by a scholarship based on their Class 10 and Class 12 or JEE Main scores. Details regarding UPES BTech scholarships are mentioned in the table below:

Apart from this, BTech students are also awarded by the below scholarships:

• Merit-Based Scholarship: Candidates, who have secured an aggregate of 80% in Class 10 and Class 12 in PCM in CBSE/ ICSE / State Examination Board, will be awarded by the 50% tuition fee waiver for the first semester. Such scholarships will be limited to 10% of seats in each BTech specialisation.
• Scholarship for Uttarakhand State Board toppers: Under this scholarship, 25% of tuition fee waiver will be given to boys and 35% to girl students under all specialisations. The scholarship will be given to one student per programme.
• Scholarship for BSc (Hons) students: BSc students are awarded by a scholarship based on their Class 10 and Class 12 percentile. Candidates, who have secured an aggregate of 75% in Class 10 and Class 12, can get a tuition fee waiver of 50% under this scholarship.
• Scholarship for MTech students: MTech students are awarded by a scholarship on the basis of their GATE scores. Candidates, who have secured more than 70% in GATE, will get a scholarship of Rs 12,400 per month. To continue the scholarship in subsequent semesters, candidates need to secure a minimum of 8.0 CGPA/ SGPA in each semester.
• Scholarship for MSc (Hons) students: MSc (Hons) students are awarded by a scholarship based on their Class 10, Class 12 and graduation scores. A tuition fee waiver of 50% will be given to the candidates who have secured an aggregate of 60% in Class 10, Class 12 and graduation.
