About

Founded in 2005, Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST) is a public university which is based in Pulwama region of Jammu & Kashmir. Established by the J&K state government, it is accredited with Grade ‘B’ by NAAC and is duly recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 2(f) and Section 12(b) of UGC Act. All the technical and nursing programmes offered by IUST have gained approval from Indian Nursing Council (INC) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

IUST has strong tie-ups with numerous prestigious institutions such as United Nations University of Peace Costa Rica, Delhi University, University of Kashmir and Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, to facilitate technical, academic and cultural exchange. IUST Admission Process

IUST admission is granted either on merit or on the basis of entrance exam scores. Candidates can apply for the desired courses in both online as well as offline modes. Those seeking admissions in various programmes offered by IUST must qualify certain criteria, as explained below:

  • BTech: Candidates must clear JEE Main with a valid score for admission in this course
  • MTech: Admission is granted basis a valid score in GATE or IUST entrance test
  • MBA: For admissions, students need to qualify CAT / MAT followed by GD and interview conducted by the University

UG Courses

  • Admission to BTech rogramme is granted on the basis of score obtained in JEE Main. However, BTech LE admission is merit-based

IUST offers undergraduate courses in several programmes under its various departments. Admission is both merit-based as well as entrance based, depending on the course. Admission procedure along with all the important information of UG courses is elaborated below. 

IUST BTech Admission 2021

IUST offers four-year BTech and three-year BTech Lateral Entry (LE) programme comprising six specialisations each. All the BTech specialisations has a seat intake of 60 each. For BTech programme, eligible candidates who wish to seek admission need to have a valid score in JEE Main whereas for BTech LE programme, students must satisfy the minimum eligibity criteria provided in the table below:

IUST BSc Admission 2021: BSc, Post Basic BSc

The University offers BSc and Post Basic BSc programme with a course duration of three and four years, respectively. BSc (General) has 60 seats whereas BSc (Actuarial and Financial Mathematics) has an intake of 35.

  • IUST BSc (General) admission solely depends on fulfiling the eligibility criteria set by the University
  • Admission to BSc (Actuarial and Financial Mathematics) is based on a University-level entrance test. The question paper for entrance test will comprise Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) based on the Mathematics syllabus taught in Class 12
  • The University conducts an entrance test for selecting students for BSc (Nursing). The question paper shall be of 100 minutes duration consisting of 100 MCQs in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology of Class 12 level. The question paper shall consist of three sections having 30 questions each of Physics & Chemistry and 40 questions on Biology. There will be no negative marking

IUST Admission 2021: BA (Hons), BBA, BVoc

In addition to the above mentioned UG programmes, IUST also offers three-year BA, BBA and BVoc programmes. BA (Hons) English has an intake of 45 whereas BBA offers 60 seats. Admission to BA and BBA is entrance-based whereas for BVoc, admission is based on the merit obtained in the qualifying exam.

  • Selection for BBA programme will be based on merit obtained by the candidate in the undergraduate admission test in management conducted by All India Management Association (AIMA), New Delhi in collaboration with IUST
  • The question paper of BA (Hons) English entrance test will comprise MCQs based on General English syllabus taught in Class 12 and General Knowledge (GK) including Environmental Science as one of the components
  • Admission to BVoc is merit-based

IUST PG Admission 2021

IUST offers numerous courses at postgraduate level under it several schools such as School of Engneering and Technology, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, School of Business Studies and School of Sciences. Admission to all these courses is based on either a national level entrance exam or University-based test, depending on the course. All the details regarding admissions are elaborated below.

IUST MA Admission 2021

IUST MA admission is based on the scores obtained in the entrance exam conducted by the University. The course duration of MA programme is two years. The syllabus for specialisation-specific entrance exam is given below:

  • MA (Economics): The question paper for entrance test will comprises MCQs on General Aptitude, recent trends in economics and core economics
  • MA (Arabic Language and Literature): The question paper for entrance test consists of MCQs based on undergraduate level syllabus for Arabic language, GK and knowledge of the Arab World Affairs
  • MA (English): The question paper for entrance test comprises MCQs based on undergraduate level syllabus of General English and English Literature 
  • MA (Islamic Studies): The question paper comprises MCQs based on Islamic History, Islamic Religious and Social Sciences, Sufism, Muslim Philosophy being taught at undergraduate level
  • MA (Journalism and Mass Communication): The entrance test consists of both descriptive and MCQs based questions such as GK, Current Affairs (CA), Media Analysis, Personalities and Events in news, creative writing, critical appreciation, books & authors, abbreviations and English language vocabulary, respectively
  • MA (International Relations): The question paper for entrance exam will comprise MCQs based on major conflicts around the world, peace initiatives, Geography, important personalities, GK and CA

  • MSc (Statistics/ Physics/ Chemistry): The entrance test question paper will be comprising MCQs based on the relevant specialisation taught at UG level

IUST Admission 2021: MBA, MCA, MTech

The University offers MBA, MCA and MTech programmes in full-time mode. Admission to all these programmes is entrance-based. 

  • For MBA programme, selection will be based on the score obtained by the candidate in CMAT (conducted by AICTE) or the score obtained by the candidate in the IUST MAT admission test conducted by IUST in collaboration with AIMA, followed by the Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI). A weightage of 60 per cent is given to CMAT/ IUST MAT score and the remaining 40 per cent weightage is given to GD and PI
  • A valid GATE score is required for admission to MTech Food Technology programme. The students, who don't have a valid GATE score, must appear for the entrance exam conducted by the University. Final selection of the students is based on the performance in GATE/ University-based test and qualifying examination in the ratio of 60 per cent and 40 per cent, respectively
  • Candidates seeking admission to MCA programme is done through an entrance test held at University's end which consists of MCQs based on Computer Science taught at undergraduate level, Mathematics taught at Class 12, LR and English language comprehension

IUST Integrated MBA Admission 2021

IUST also offers integrated MBA (BBA+MBA) programme to provide students with a sound understanding of the field of international business, and to enable them to obtain an appropriate entry-level international business position leading to a successful career. The programme's duration is five years and students will be awarded with BBA and MBA degrees separately, based on the performance in one to six semesters and seven to 10 semesters, respectively.

Selection to integrated MBA programme will be based on merit obtained by the candidate in UG MAT, conducted by the Universty in association with AIMA, New Delhi.

IUST PhD Admission 2021

AT doctoral level, IUST offers PhD programme in 14 specialisations. The minimum duration of the programme is three years, with a maximum of six years. Admission to PhD is based on a University-level entrance test, conducted by the concerned department. Out of 100 aggregate, 80 aggregate is assigned to the written component and the remaining 20 aggregate, to viva voce/ presentation. The written component has 80 MCQs, carrying one mark each, consisting of questions on research methodology and questions from the broad area in which candidate wishes to pursue PhD. The candidate will have to secure at least 50 per cent aggregate in the written test to be eligible for viva voce/ presentation. Candidates who have qualified either NET/ SLET/ SET/ GATE will be exempted from the entrance test.

IUST Application Process 2021

Candidates seeking admission to IUST campus are required to apply online for all the programmes on the official website of the University. 

Step-by-step online application process is mentioned below: 

  1. Candidates must log on to the University website and click on 'Admissions' tab in order to fill the application form online
  2. On the next page, click on 'Apply Now' and after reading the instructions carefully, hit on 'Proceed' button
  3. New applicants must click on the link titled 'Apply for Under Graduate' or 'Apply for Post Graduate' as required, under the 'New Applicant' tab
  4. 'Existing Applicants' can use their already issued application number and start filling the application form
  5. Fill-in all the details in the application form that appears on the screen 
  6. Scan and upload a passport-size colored photograph (5-200 KB) in .jpg or .png format
  7. After completing the application form successfully, the candidate will receive an acknowledgment message. Students are advised to save the acknowledgement document for any future references
  8. Commplete application form along with the attested copies of all relevant documents needs to be sent to the admission section of the University
  9. The final step is to make a payment of Rs 1,000 as the application fee through net-banking or debit/ credit card
