Spread over an area of 888 acres, Karnatak University, Dharwad or KUD is located in Pavate Nagar, Karnataka. It was established through The Karnataka University Act 1949 by the Bombay Legislature or as previously known as Bombay Presidency in 1949. But it was in 1950, KUD finally became a statutory university. Karnatak University, Dharwad has been ranked by various ranking agencies across the globe. It has been ranked 91-95 in India by QS World University Rankings 2021.  

The University had been approved by The University Grants Commission (UGC) and is an Association of Indian Universities (AIU) member. Moreover, KUD offers around 555 courses across eight main departments of study as shown in the image. These eight main departments are further divided into sub-departments. 

Karnatak University, Dharwad has a total intake of around 4,000 students for PG, PG Diploma, certification and PhD courses. The University, along with three PG centres located in Haveri, Gadag and Karwar, has around 250 affiliated colleges and five constituent colleges. For some courses, KUD grants admission based on valid scores in national/ state level exams while for some it conducts its own entrance exams. The university also imparts education through distance and correspondence modes in the Arts, Commerce and Social Sciences for students who cannot seek education on regular basis. Karnatak University, Dharwad has University Employment Information and Guidance Bureau (UEIGB). The purpose of UEIGB is to provide employment information and guidance to the students and the Alumni of the university. The Bureau also offers career counselling, workshops and more activities that helps students in developing their overall personality.
