Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agriculture Science and Technology (SKUAST) Jammu is a state agricultural university, affiliated to ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research). The University is imparting education in various streams of study like Agriculture, Horticulture, Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Forestry, Fisheries, Agricultural Engineering, Home Science, Environmental Science, Sericulture and other allied sciences. SKUAST accepts admission to its courses on the basis of valid scores of SKUAST J-CET (Jammu Common Entrance Test). SKUAST has one more branch in Kashmir known as SKUAST Kashmir.

SKUAST Jammu offers 6 base courses namely, BSc, BVSc, MSc, MVSc, MBA, and PhD. There are various specialisations for each base course in the field of Agriculture, Veterinary Science, Basic Science and Bio-technology. The university also offers diploma and certificate courses. The University has established seven career counselling and placement centres across faculties with the strength of 36 Scientists. The career counselling and placement centres with its headquarter at Shalimar perform the following major functions.

• Conducting on-campus placement melas by establishing contacts with prospective employers in private and public sector institutions
• Conducting career counselling sessions for the benefit of the student community
• Assisting the students in preparing and uploading their resumes on relevant sites in order to expose them to the relevant job market

There is no information on the official website for placements, 2019 however as per Shiksha review there were few companies that visited for the campus placement. Most of the student took postgraduation or doctoral courses further.

SKUAST offers scholarships through its department of the Students Welfare. The department facilitates the subsidies / financial assistance/ scholarships to the Campus students. These scholarship names are as below:

SKUAST Jammu offers a wide range of facilities for the overall development of its students. Few of these facilities are listed below:

• Hostel: SKUAST Jammu provides accommodation facilities to the students who come from far-flung areas. Separate hostel facilities are available for boys and girls. Rooms are fully furnished and mess facilities are also provided at a reasonable rate. The table given below represents the boarding capacity of each hostel of SKUAST Jammu:

• Sports: SKUAST Jammu encourages students to participate in sports and cultural activities. The university regularly organises events like Youth festival, Sports meet, College fest, talent hunt competition, etc.
• Health Care: Free medical facilities are provided to all the students of SKUAST Jammu. The health care centre has qualified staff with one medical officer, one lady doctor, two pharmacists, a lab technician, and a staff nurse.
• SAMETI Training Programme: Under this training, students are given real-life exposure to Agricultural life, the challenges it is facing, and the resources it needs.
