What’s new at Vel Tech? The placements are going on and over 1,600 placement offers have been made till December 2021. As per the ongoing placement report, the highest package offered during 2022 placement drive is INR 10 LPA. The top recruiters of Vel Tech placements 2022 included Microchip, Cognizant, Capgemini, Zoho, Accenture, Amadeus, Wipro, Mphasis, etc.

Established in 1997, Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr Sagunthala R and D Institute of Science and Technology is a deemed private university, recognised as an 'A' Grade institution by the NAAC. It is also accredited by the NBA and recognised by the AICTE. Initially, it was affiliated to the University of Madras and in 2001, the affiliation shifted to Anna University. The Institute became a Deemed-to-be university in 2008.

At present, the Institute offers approximately 50 programmes at UG, PG and PhD level across the streams of Engineering, Technology, Science, Management, Law and Commerce. The students at Vel Tech are offered a 'Semester Abroad Programme' with the foreign universities for coursework as well as internships. The PhD students are provided with a plethora of opportunities to hone their research skills during their research work and therefore, 70 independent labs are facilitated for experimentation and faculty-student engagement. Vel Tech has international collaborations with more than 390 institutions across 30 countries and has signed MoUs with over 140 institutions for various academic and research exchange activities. Also, it is the first institute from India to be selected as a member of the Conceive-Design-Implement-Operate (CDIO) worldwide initiative.

The Institute has an Industrial-Institutional Interaction Cell, whereby it has established interaction with more than 2,800 industries/ institutes/ organisations. It has tied-up with over 200 organisations for various academic and research activities, such as joint degree programmes, in-plant training, internships, projects, R&D, consultancy, guest lectures, etc. 

Candidates willing to take admission to Vel Tech can apply online through its official website. The processing charges for the admission form is Rs 1,000 for all the courses. The selection process for each course differs. For some courses, the admission is accepted based on merit, while for others, candidates need to qualify certain entrance exams. Admission to the rest of the UG and PG programmes is merit-based. However, preference is given to those who have qualified a national-level entrance exam in the respective field. The Institute also offers admission under the Sports Quota to all UG and PG students with an excellent record in sports at the national/ state/ district level.

Vel Tech offers various courses with diverse specialisations at UG, PG and PhD level. The duration of the BTech programme is four years and that of the rest of the UG courses is three years. On the other hand, the duration of all PG programmes is of two years. The institute also offers a few integrated programmes of five-year duration. Apart from the regular courses, Vel Tech provides some industry-collaborated programmes as well. All the courses are duly recognised by the UGC and the AICTE. International students can apply to all UG and PG programmes, provided they have a minimum of 50% score in the qualifying examination and have studied the prerequisite subjects for admission into the desired programme.

The Institute offers Mahatma Gandhi National Merit Scholarship which is based on a candidate's performance in Class 12 (PCM) and/or their rank in VTUEEE, whichever is higher. The topper in PCM from each state/ union territory is granted a scholarship of 100% in tuition fee. Candidates must secure a minimum aggregate of 60% in PCM in order to be eligible for the rank-based scholarship.
