About
WBSU was established in 2007 by the state government. It is also known as Barasat University. WBSU has a total of 50 colleges offering courses at UG, PG and doctoral level in the field of Arts, Science, Commerce, Education, Business Administration, and Physical Education. WBSU has Anti-Ragging Cell and sexual harassment cells for the security of the students, Sports Cell, and is affiliated with the Association of Indian Universities in 2009.
WBSU has ample of collaborations with Bose Institute, Indian Institute of Chemical Biology (IICB), Indian Association for the Cultivation of Sciences (IACS), Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP), Calcutta, Jadavpur, Vidyasagar, Tripura, and other Universities, National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS), Pune, IUCA, and many more.to augment the research environment within the university. Furthermore, there are a few collaborations with different foreign universities and institutes.

West Bengal State University Placements
The training and placement cell at WBSU was started in 2009 to impart training to students such that they can get placed. The cell works in close coordination with the Department of Computer Science and Electronics. The cell provides 80-hours training to train them on how to crack interviews with private firms. Some of the key recruiters are TCS, Larsen & Toubro, Srei Sahaj E-Village Ltd., Tatwa & Limtex, Nicco Ventures, SRF Ltd, Tech Mahindra, and many more.
- Approximately 30 students have been placed without training and about 50 students have been placed with training
- Some placement opportunities happen off-campus; approximately 20 students get placed through off-campus mode
